Title: Seems I don't know my job at all
Post by: Trevor on June 15, 2016, 04:55:29 AM
I always thought that the Ken Annakin film The Hellions (1961) - South Africa's first Western - was, judging by the release date, in the public domain. I got an email from Sony Entertainment this morning saying that it isn't in fact available to all.

Oh well, you live and learn.

I put that info there

Interesting: this film's cinematographer, Ted Moore BSC, was the first South African Oscar winner a few years later.

That is awesome.

I think the whole reason why the story is on public domain because most of the information was lost/forgotten... I think it's save to believe the story was the first South African Western.

sadly I don't see the movie listed here:

At least they didn't miss Space Mutiny in their list of films.

My list runs from 1910 to the present day: that list needs a bit of updating.
