I liked the Stephen King short story (novela, if you like) but people who know me and my nature, warned me never to see this film as its' ending would depress the heck out of me.
Now I have it on DVD - a double disc - in my grubby paws: any thoughts?
I just saw the last few minutes: :bluesad: :bluesad: :bluesad: :bluesad:
It's not much good. Darabont seems to encourage his actors to be as boring as possible. Also, the ending was BS.
spoilers
The cars runs out of gas and all of them instantly decide to commit suicide? Not one of them says, "Let's just wait a minute and see what happens." Uh, no. Also, that woman who left to find her kids is alive? Everyone else who went into the mist got killed in about fifteen seconds, yet she was able to survive? That was extreme BS.
The ending is a punch to the gut, but I liked it.
Yeah, really, at the end when Godzilla blew up the Death Star, it just took me right out of the picture.
Still one of the best Stephen King-Adaptations in my opinion. And the ending is just brilliant and surpasses the original ending. Even King himself thought so.

I must have missed that scene
I own the DVD and I like it (and the ending). But I'm a fan of twisted endings.

The ending is a drag. Yet, like other
STEPHEN KING adaptations, they sometimes get better than the source. This one is creepy and disturbing. I thought the actors did a good job and
MARCIA GAY HARDEN was anything but boring... now that you've seen the ending you can go ahead and watch all the rest of it. I think it is worthwhile, especially if a fan...

She survived because she's also Carol from
The Walking Dead

I highly enjoyed The Mist, and I think it's one of the better Stephen King novellas. Of course, as opposed to the movie, King's story just kind of... ends.
I really like when they travel out in the mist at the end of the movie. Still, it's easy to make things eerie as hell when you back the visuals with a Dead Can Dance track.
Really enjoyed this one, I'd read the story and the ending was quite unexpected and all the more powerful for it. With Kristi's habit of having nightmares when she watches horror movies I decided this was one she would never sit down and watch.
I've hear King actually prefers the ending to the movie then the one he wrote. I know the ending got a lot of people riled up, and I know like I felt like i was punched in the gut afterwords-but that's the sign that it was effective. I can honestly say that's the most a movie had made me feel in a while.
I enjoyed it overall, especially because of the ending.
When this was released on DVD it was apparently with a black and white version of the film which is what Darabond wanted all along allegedly. Seems stupid (unlike the chrome version of Mad Max which looks so good) but hey whatever.
Also looks like it may become a tv series.
