Just curious what your first-ever music purchase (that you bought with your own money) was (and what format it was in).
For me, it was probably this:

I never owned an 8-track but I remember envying kids who did.
This was mine: cost me a whole ZARand 40 (about $4) and yes, I still have the vinyl. I also have it on CD.

The song Procession scared the crap out of me as a kid and it continued to do so until my special sister told me years later that the sound I thought were ghosts coming out of the speakers was in fact an Om chant. :teddyr:

The Cowsills. I was a kid with Christmas money. I bought it on vinyl -- when it was originally released. It is long since gone.
Plus, I had a HUGE crush on the daughter of the family. Probably should have followed through on that crush. She turned out to be a regular hottie.

I had that on vinyl (also the red one) and they had the lyrics printed on the inner sleeve. I sold my own copies just about 20 years ago when I sold a lot of stuff and moved into this house... interestingly, my own favorites on that wonderful collection are the least favorites by most (like
"Don't Let Me Down").

By the time I earned my own money CDs were all the rage. One of my first CD purchases was Kool & the Gang's Ladies' Night (1979)

I was always into soul, r&b, hip hop and *cough* disco. According to my friends back then I had the uncoolest taste in music :bouncegiggle: but I didn't care. My vinyl for Ladies' Night was worn out. The last song on side B, "Too Hot" had a continuous hiss with a few crackle and pops. Listening to it for the first time on CD was like a revelation.
I didn't buy albums on tapes. I was a mix-tape guy. I would spend hours making mix-tapes in my room, putting songs in prefered order etc.

Bad Hair Day by "Weird Al" Yankovic, on cassette, around '96 or so.
Guns N Roses, Appitite For Destruction on vinyl was my first. Played it so much it got a bit worn out and ended up having to buy a new copy on CD.
