Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness are the best B movies ever! Who agrees???
I would strongly agree with you on that idea. The best indeed those three movies are. Those are what B-movies are all about. However if you talk to my husband I believe his words would be..... and I quote...."these movies were a complete waste of time and money- what little was spent mind you- the acting is far from that of a child acting in a school play, the mere thought of people actually wasting their time and money to see these movies is way beyond my own comprehensible abilities." This I know from experience for I am just like those people and own all three!!!!!!!!
And maybe Sony will consider that Raimi just made them big old stacks and piles of million dollar bills and toss him 10 Mill to do Evil Dead 4.
I never forget when I caught ARMY OF DARKNESS on Sci-Fi channel about 5 years ago for the first time. It took me along time to realize that there were pre-ARMY OF DARKNESS movie. When I discovered this I quickly rente EVIL DEAD and EVIL DEAD II and liked them both.
100% agree. Evil Dead has been my favourite film since I was thirteen (17 years ago). The other two I have convienently tied with Evil Dead in first place as my favourite films of all time. Recently I travelled from Toronto to Michigan to see the Anchor Bay premere of Evil Dead, with the entire cast and Tom Sullivan present. I was in heaven. It's weird, when I was in film school and telling people they were my favourite films I was either looked on in scorn or complete confusion, people not having heard of them (of course, not everyone, there were a few Evil Dead fans who I remain friends with to this day). But twenty years after it was made it is doing amazingly well, with action figures, video games and re-release after re-release. I remember searching every used video store on the planet for a beat up, over-watched Thorn EMI version for years, and now it's in the staff pics of every Blockbuster or Rogers (Canadian Blockbuster) Video. Sam Raimi has had a strange career, and it was announced today that in between Spider-Man's he's making a movie about the Boogey-Man and him and Rob Tapert are starting an independant company to produce low budget horror and sci-fi films by young directors. In between that and his blockbusters it looks like he'll have a strange career ahead of him too.
It looks like he's only producing the Boogey-Man movie, but he still rules.
I saw AOD in video stores several times but never picked it up, thinking it looked stupid (I was very naive and stupid then), then I caught it on Sci-Fi. The opening recap, showing Ash cutting off his hand and the events of ED 2, seemed like the movie I'd been missing all this time. I was soon a hopeless ED addict and I think that's a good thing.
When you are young and searching for a film that can knock you off your socks, the horror department at my local video store is just the place. I remember at my young age that I found EVIL DEAD on the HBO video label. It was for rent and I thought "Hey, a horror film that is not rated by the MPAA would be a nice way to start off my Summer vacation."
So late at night, I poped that VHS in and EVIL DEAD just blew me away. I was just saying "Jesus Christ, I can't believe this is happening!" when such scenes of Ash smacking his girlfriend on the head with wooden boards, the "bodily dismemberment" sequence, etc. I knew after that I had found my favorite film.
Then I viewed EVIL DEAD 2 and ARMY OF DARKNESS and the fun just continued to roll in.
I actually got some friends hooked (and I mean HOOKED) on the EVIL DEAD films. Though filmed on a "B-movie" budget, I will always respect EVIL DEAD as a piece of filmmaking made by a man who was determined to get in the business. And because of EVIL DEAD, director Sam Raimi has made A SIMPLE PLAN and SPIDER-MAN.
EVIL DEAD will never grow out of my list of films that I adore.
I liked the first EVIL DEAD, thought the second was okay, but AOD wandered a little too far from the horror category for my taste. I don't like it when things are played too much for laughs. Still, I won't argue that they are good representations of the genre.
Peter Jackson's first three movies. Evil Dead Series is a close second in my book though.
Ah you guys got me hooked! Army of Darkness is in my Uncle's Video Shop, I'm gonna rush out and buy it! (Knowing my luck it has the depressing ending!)
Nope, it had BOTH endings. I prefer the happy ending.
Isn't one of peter Jackson's first movies Bad Taste? That Movie Kicks ass!!!
ypu are probly talking about those zombie based ones, though.... I think one of them is called dead alive, which I have unfortunatley been unable to see for awhile now. I CAN'T FIND IT!!!!
I don't think I'd consider them my favorites but the first and second move I like. Army of Darkness has too much goofy humor and strays away from horror too much for me to like it.
I've seen Evil Dead 2 now. I liked it, as it had a perfect blend of comedy and horror. One moment I was laughing my ass off, the next I was scared s***less!! I can't seem to find ED 1 anywhere, but I think it was banned in the UK for ages due to the tree rape scene, but now it's avaliable it's still hard to find.
