Title: Anyone hear about this rechargeable battery class action suit?
Post by: AoTFan on June 19, 2017, 09:43:10 PM
I just read about this, and they say that there's been like $43 million settlement and that anyone (yes, ANYONE) who's bought like a laptop, monitor, phone tablet, or anything with a rechargeable lithium battery might be entitled to a part of the settlement.

I know we got some legal guys here, so I was wondering if they had heard anything about it.

Here's some links

Websites describing the lawsuit.

And this where you go to put in your claim.

Dunno.. I'm a little conflicted.  I don't know how legit this is, and, for various reasons, even if it was, I'm always a little reluctant to just jump on the bandwagon of any and all lawsuit that come down the pike.  But if they're doing what they say... hmm.

The only people who come out ahead in class-action lawsuits like this are the law firms. YOUR settlement would be, maybe, a $5 coupon, BUT they get to sell your information for signing up. Not really worth the time and effort.

But Rev. can correct me if I'm wrong.

Probably, except for the "they get to sell your info" part (unless it's a scam). There's usually little benefit to the end consumer from these types of suits. I personally always ignore them.

Even though the consumers usually don't get much and the lawyers get a lot, that's not to say these kind of suits don't potentially serve a useful social purpose in deterring certain types of corporate misbehavior. That said I have no idea whether this particular case has merit.

Well, that goes without saying.  Most lawyers don't do these things for the "warm feelies".
