Isn't August the only month without a holiday?
Also I've heard that August is said to have "The Dog Days of Summer" because it was in the heat of August that dogs most often went mad.
It was re-named in honor of Augustus Caesar.
It also has a great annual meteor shower.

I don't think March has one either.
I understand that Elvis died on Madonna's 19th birthday. Rumor has it, she took it as a sign, so she packed her bags & headed for New York.
Marilyn Monroe's grandmother tried to kill her as an infant, thinking her sixth toe was a curse. She later committed suicide in an insane asylum. Marilyn Monroe died on the anniversary of her grandmother's suicide.

Not in the U.S., we officially start autumn on the equinox, 9/22. I kind of like the way you guys do it, starting at the beginning of the month. Easier to remember.

Thats nice-thank you Trev-I think HP Lovecraft is fantastic. Along with Shirley Jackson-my favorite writers.
I should have mentioned, in August during the peak night of the Perseid meteor shower I have often held an event called Dog Days' Night, in which we stay up swimming and watching the darkened skies, and then at dawn anyone left standing gets to come in for survivor's breakfast.
