We're about 9 days out from the culmination of 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I grew up a Marvel fan, not so much a DC fan. This is all I've lived for. And both trailers look glorious.

Me and the missus have our tickets pre-booked to the midnight screening in our area. there are 2 local cinemas both offering 3 midnight screenings (One 3-D and two 2-D) and one of them has sold out and the other has sold out 2 of the 3 screenings and the 3rd ones almost sold out. Its absolutely mental. That being said I can honestly say im absolutely looking forward to this one :) i've been watching them in the cinema since Age of Ultron (I wasnt entirely convinced by the fans telling me how good the first wave of marvel films were until about "Thor the Dark world" came out. then me and my partner pretty much marathoned everything to bring us up to date)
Its been overall a bit of a patchy road truthfully to get here but when its been on a high its been incredible and at worst they've just been a bit forgettable.
I'm hoping it dies at the box office. I'm just so xxxdamn sick and tired of hearing g about one xxxdamn super her or movie after another.
Yeah, this gonna be good. The steady and remarkable success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been amazing to see. The huge success of Iron Man began something that could not be stopped. They've had top notch writers, directors, actors and characters, and despite some hiccups, the hype for the new Avengers movie couldn't be bigger.
Infinity War opens tomorrow in Australia for some weird reason. It falls on ANZAC Day, which is a day of remembrance for the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who fought in the early 20th century wars. It's always a sombre day of thought and recognition, and it's weird that it's opening on a Wednesday here, not a Thursday like movies usually do.

Looking forward to it too, even when a Marvel film hasn't been great it is at least still decent and enjoyable.
I've never seen a "bad" Marvel film since they've taken over that side of things.
Obviously, prior films are bad but since they acquired Iron Man and started this, it's all been gravy.
No spoilers.
Watched the show tonight. I thought it rocked, rocked, rocked. It delivered what it was supposed to.. it's a crossover, so lots of characters and action happening, but there was good time for some of the characters (not all) to have their moments. It made Thanos a much more interesting villain than the caricature he is in the original comic series. Tied in well with the prior movies, logically extending the action and what had been set before. 5/5 from a Marvel fanboy admittedly. Part 2 in postproduction I think, cannot wait.
Why is Groot not on the poster?
Well, Groot actually died in the first Guardians movie. The guy in the second film is effectively his son. Or possibly daughter. Or whatever.
My son Eddie, who has a car, is gonna take me to it when it hits the Strand in Paw Paw. (kids are a good thing.)
the Strand is a tiny movie theater built in 1927- it takes a little time for new movies to get there. But I would rather see a movie at the Strand then anywhere else. I been watching movies there since 1970. And it only cost $1.50 on Thursday! f**k them multiplex joints!
And it's got a balcony!

This is a movie you need to see soon in theaters. Seeing it in a crowded theater with a bunch of other fans was a big part of the fun. Especially during that ending sequence. (To say this movie ends on a cliffhanger is a HUGE understatement.)
I was also surprised by that one character showing up when Thanos went for one of the Infinity Stones -those who seen the movie know what I'm talking about.
Honestly, after Part II is over, if the MCU decided to end totally, it still would be all worth it. Really enjoyed the film.

Why is Groot not on the poster?
Probably not enough space or, possibly not much screen time in the film proper.
Question: do I need to see Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2 before Avengers Infinity War? I've seen every other MCU movie except them.
Should I binge watch the last five movies or so in order to get a fuller experience of Avengers? I did this with the Batman trilogy and it was so worth it, I felt like I'd been on a complete journey with all of them.
YES, you need to watch both Guardians of the Galaxy movies first.
With a record breaking opening weekend, I guess the Marvel movie juggernaught is going to keep on rolling a good while longer.
Saw this last night. It delivered.
Josh Brolin was awesome as Thanos.
I thought it was good. Loved the interactions between the various arrogant heroes. It was weird how power levels weren't consistent from previous outings (Vision, wth?). Also, thought Darkseid and the Furies...I mean, Thanos and his black guard or whatever were ok (all kidding aside, Thanos was a better developed villain than most Marvel). I especially loved Dasaadd... I mean, the Voldamort -a pretty cool henchman.
Glad it ended the way it did, but it's pretty clear how they plan to use the same plot devi...gauntlet to undo everything, so the stakes really weren't that high when there's an obvious douche-ex-machina available.
Still, it was a fun ride.
Dislikes: the Jack Kirby 4th World New Gods rip-off, but more infuriating was the lack of Black Widow's red hair. Unforgivable sin lol.

Thank you! I'll go buy the DVD's this weekend. I don't think Infinity War is going anywhere, anytime soon.
I was the most nervous about this movie. Age of Ultron's ultimate downfall was that it had too many characters. I assumed that Infinity War was also going to be a huge mess and that it wouldn't live up to six years of hype. I was pleasantly surprised that they somehow managed to give most of the characters equal spotlight.
I think the most shocking thing is that they made Thanos empathetic instead of a megalomaniacal mustache-twiddler. Throughout he seemed unhappy with what he was doing, seeing it as necessary evil.

I noticed as the movie went on that Thanos used a suspicious lack of lethal force aside from killing Loki at the very start of the film and leaving Thor for dead. His goons used lethal force but he had many chances to kill the heroes and even accepted Dr. Strange's plea to spare Tony Stark's life. While still a terrible person he came off as a sort of Lawful Evil, holding to a code of ethics. It was also surprising that he saw Gamora not as a tool, but a true daughter and was very upset that he had to kill her.
He also wasn't completely incorrect, sadly. Overpopulation is a very real issue and there would be benefit to 50% of humans dying in real life, as horrible as that is. Not that I'm defending what he did. The end of the movie shows how terrible killing half the universe is. Everyone that died had individual personality and loved ones that will mourn their loss.
While Infinity War obviously will have a part two it's very, very strange to end a superhero movie with the villain winning. When the credits rolled in I heard my sister go "What? What?!", and it was kinda funny.
However the ending is ruined by corporate cynicism. Yeah, sure. Spider-Man is totally gonna die after he only had one standalone movie, ya got me, movie. I'm absolutely convinced they won't come back to life. I'm completely convinced that Disney is fully willing to miss out on a s**t-ton of money by killing off major heroes. They even show right at the end of the movie that Thanos can use the time stone to bring Vision back to life (Just to kill him again). They very clearly established the mechanism that I can guarantee will be used to resurrect the heroes in the next movie. I'm hopeful some of the minor heroes stay dead but it's obvious certain characters will be coming back.
As usual it's not exactly high art but I was very impressed by the emotional heaviness of the film and the fact that they somehow were able to give most of the twenty-eight characters decent amounts of screen time. I think the only character that got shafted in terms of screen time was Black Panther. But his movie sucked balls so I don't care. Also, apparently the film hated Iron Man 3 as much as I did because they came up with an excuse to give Tony Stark another synthetic heart.
The post-credit scene wasn't able to get me pumped, I'm afraid. I had to Google what that symbol even meant and when I found out I said "Oh. A Hero I've never heard of. Ok.".
The comedy was really funny as usual. Let's be honest, every Marvel movie is an action/comedy. I lost my s**t when one of Thanos's goons was called "Squidward". Some people complained about the Guardian's jokes but I think most of them worked. The part where Peter Quill starts mocking Thor was just kinda awkward and uncomfortable. Still, it's one thousand times funnier than "WHAT ARE THOSE?!". Also, while this wasn't a joke, Peter Dinklage being taller than everyone else is unintentionally funny; especially after seeing Three Billboards.

Anyway, I can only recommend this film if you've seen the other Marvel movies. I skipped Ant Man but that literally doesn't matter at all. A new viewer won't know what the hell is happening and won't be invested as much in the characters which isn't good for a film. But as someone that has seen most of them it worked well for me.
It's better than the first Avengers and is my third favorite Marvel film next to the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies. It's surprisingly emotionally heavy and I am willing to overlook most of its flaws.
8/10
I hope the heroes that died early (Loki, Heimdall and Gamora) stay as such.
I'm fairly certain those who suffered the "snap" are back in some capacity.
{spoilers}
So if you read the source, you know that the gauntlet can restore anyone or anything back. So the revolving door of death from comic books is indeed kept in the movie -- and I'm okay by that. That's how comic books are. I'll be curious to see if they let the gauntlet just rearrange matter and energy to bring someone back, or if it'll require a time-turner and change something in the past approach. But either way, of course it can be all undone. I'm surprised when people show up to see THIS kind of movie and expect anything otherwise, frankly.
Zap's right. NOTHING is written in stone in the world of superheros.
Nobody dies forever in comic books. Captain America, Superman, Batman- they all died. It's comic book land, people. Anything can happen.
Just like Monsterland. the Frankenstein Monster, Dracula, the Wolf Man. I mean-cmon.
If the box office does big-they will come.
I mean- How many FRIDAY THE 13TH movies (the FINAL CHAPTER) or NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (FREDDY'S DEAD) s**t did they continue when it was supposed to be over? Saying 'the end' to something is just a come-on to get you to buy tickets-until the next one. Called 'ballyhoo.'
When you get down to it-this is comic book stuff. Not the GODFATHER.

Vision also wasn't killed by the snap. He had his infinity stone manually, and brutally ripped out of his head.
That is true about Vision.
Fairly certain he'll stay gone, although given Stark's nano -technology and access to the technology and Shuri in Wakanda, Vision can maybe be rebuilt
After thinking about Thanos' motive a bit more, I think he comes off kind of short sighted.
Essentially, he's kicking the can down the road instead of really solving anything. Rather than wipe out half the universe, why not attack the disease instead of the symptom and fix the resource problem with the ultra powerful plot glove? With his solution, eventually the universe will repopulate and encounter the same resource problem again and again.
I think there's some interesting social undertone here. The ultra powerful would rather kick the can down the road while folks die rather than fix the real problem (i.e. resources). Sounds like both parties in Congress lol (grandstanding, but ultimately ineffectual).
Why does Thanos go this route? Because he's evil and insane. Out of all the "end of the world" villains, at least he has motivation, even if short-sighted and misguided.
Great friggin movie, though. Best Darkseid knock-off to date.

In this continuity, while the Stones may have unlimited power, the glove used to control them clearly does not. The "snap" looks to have seriously damaged it.
It's entirely likely that what you are proposing, conjuring more resources into the universe, is beyond the glove's capacity.
Don't forget that Thanos is known as "The Mad Titan", not the sane and reasonable Titan. That would be his distant cousin Edwin.
I think they did a great job of actually making Thanos sympathetic and giving him a good reasoning behind what he does, but that doesn't change the fact that he's not actually right and is still rather insane.
Also, Thanos may be the ripoff, but he's better than Darkseid has ever been.
Also, I LOVE the interacts some of the heros had. Starlord's jealous over Thor and his pop culture banter with Spider-man was great.
Dr. Strange also made a wonderful foil for Ironman.
Thanos's henchmen where pretty disposable except for the telekinetic guy. He rocked, but the big brute, the girl, and the guy who looked like Green Goblin, they were just kinda there.
Also, they brought back red Skull. Didn't expect to ever see him again in the movies.
Thanos came across really well. I'd say it's partially how they wrote it and how Brolin acted it.
I've grown up a Marvel guy, and loved the comics. I've waited my 34 years of existence for Thanos.

Vision is a pretty boring character, IMO. I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed dead. I don't think he was exactly a fan favorite and was pretty disposable.
Even having read this thread, I was surprised by the movie's brutal disposal of so many well-loved characters.
Did George R.R. Martin write the screenplay?

This.
But since Rocket and Nebula are still around, and the impending arrival of Captain Marvel, I assume they get the gauntlet and revive some people. How many? I don't know. I feel Vision, Loki, Heimdall and Gamora stay dead.
I can also see, possibly, the 'original' Avengers maybe sacrificing themselves for other characters. Like, Stark sacrificing himself for Parker, Cap for Bucky, etc. So the 'main' Avengers are gone but we get the "New Avengers", etc.
Even, if I have yet to see it. The 1st 10-year cycle ends not with a whimper, but with a bang. So I still have time to see it.
The film has the biggest opening in Hollywood history.
Domestic box office $257 million (40%)
International box office $383 million (60%)
Total $640 million
Now the film is earning so much money so fast, that I can't keep up with how much money it is earning.
The business of business is my business.
And while we know what is coming up in the Marvel Universe for next several years, I am taking it up year by year.
2018
It is not the only film associated with Marvel that we'll see this year.
A new Dead pool film and the 1st Venom film. Neither one of which I am interested in seeing, and 2 films which I am interested in seeing.
Spider-man
Though, it is from Sony Columbia, and seems to be operating in an alternate universe.
And Ant-man and Wasp
Which has gotten some positive buzz recently. Maybe because it is so diametrically opposed to Avengers : Infinity War.
Then 2019
While it is still untitled, the 2nd half of Avengers : Infinity War.
And Captain Marvel, of which I believe the 1st look trailer is already out there.
And a couple of events coming in 2019, which should tell us more about the future of the Marvel Universe.
1st. The marriage of the Fox and the Mouse should be finalized by the summer of 2019. So what about the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. Though, since they are some of my least favorite Marvel characters, if I see no more X-Men and Fantastic 4 films, I won't be too upset.
2nd. D23 has its biannual convention, and Marvel will be part of that with what is upcoming in films, in the theme parks, and on TV.
By the next time I post, I should have seen it, so I'll post my comments on it.
And 1 final question. Okay? Who dressed up in costume, when they went to see it?
Thanks to @Zapranoth, I bought the two Guardians movies and watched them back to back on Saturday night. I can't believe I waited for so long to watch these darn things, they are great! And Infinity War would have made way less sense had I not seen them. So, thank you, Zap!
This movie was really, really impressive. I was wondering how they were going to give the characters enough screen time for them to have emotional impact and not just a token appearance, but they managed this really well.
Despite being something of a Marvel fan, I haven't read any of the comics involving Thanos, so I don't know how close to the source they wrote the film. But his character was portrayed in an empathetic way, and the ending was like WTF JUST HAPPENED??
The Guardians got so much screen time that Infinity War was almost like Guardians Vol 3, with crossovers. Bringing the humour of Guardians into the mix was a good ploy.
What really impresses me is how Marvel Studios have managed to maintain a coherent progression of movies, introducing characters, and maintaining a consistent look and feel that helps give the sense of a complete 'world'. Each movie in the MCU is like watching the next installment of a sweeping epic. And how many studios have been able to create 18 movies, all taking place within the same universe, in ten years? Marvel Studios' accomplishment in this regard is unprecedented, I think.
Also impressive is how many lead actors have stayed in this ten year course. Robert Downey Jnr and Scarlett Johansson have played major roles in many of these movies, acting as the foundational thread that holds everything together. Hats off to these actors, too.
I've read that Marvel is deliberately keeping quiet about upcoming movies because they don't want to give away which characters are returning, and which are not. Good call. Keep us guessing!
In upcoming months, I'm going to watch all the MCU movies again in chronological order. It's going to be amazing. Thank you, Marvel Studios.
I just wonder if ghost rider could have stopped thanos with his pennance stare?
https://youtu.be/-fvfHqNEmGU?list=RD-fvfHqNEmGU
There is a Marvel comic set in the far future where Thanos has won and killed most life in the galaxy. He has kept The Hulk as a pet and Ghostrider pretty much serves as his butler. Every morning he gets him to do a penance stare on him as he finds it a refreshing way to start the day.
first let me say that i LOVE the gaurdians movies. and next i should say i don't think i've seen any other marvel movies except deadpool, so i'm clueless about the whole avengers saga.
i think i will need to wait until y'all see infinity wars part 2 and review it before i watch this first one, i'm having a tough time dealing with gamora dying.

I think they did a great job of actually making Thanos sympathetic ....
I keep seeing folks state this, but I just don't follow. What is sympathetic about half-assed genocide (no matter the reasoning behind it). Surely, it's a different motive than most Marvel villains, yes, but sympathetic? I guess I'll have to beg to differ on that.
I can't sympathize with a short-sighted plan that really doesn't solve anything. So he cried and was hurt when he killed his kidnap victim, BFD. I think most people mean "complex" more than "sympathetic" *shrugs*
Avengers : Infinity War
I finally saw it Sunday.
The story goes, that one day when an extra failed to show up, Hitchcock took his place. He liked it so much, he started appearing in more of his films. The problem was that when audiences started realizing Hitchcock was appearing in his films, they started watching for his appearance and ignoring the rest of the film. So, to prevent this, Hitchcock continuing appearing in his films, but at the start of the film. They'll have to do this with Stan Lee's appearances, which, as in this case, always leave me in hysterics.
One film truism is proved in this film. The greater the villain. The greater the heroes. Thanos may not be the greatest villain ever seen in a film, but he has to be one of the greatest villains ever seen in a film, which only makes the heroes even greater. Thanos is certainly a better villain here, then he is in the comic books.
Which leads to the biggest surprise for me. How good the acting was across the board in this film.
Sometimes he is wrong. Sometimes he is right. Here he was right. The scenes in Wakanda have to be included in The 10 Best Charges Ever Seen in the Film.
There were only 2 things that bothered me.
1st. Frankly, the only reference to Christianity did not seem to fit in the film.
2nd. One and done. Again frankly, I think everything could have been wrapped up in this one film.
If audiences are like the one I saw the film with, they have finally learned that a Marvel film does not end with the beginning of the credits.
And one personal truism is proved by this film. I can't get out of a film without spending almost $20.00 on both the ticket and snacks during the film.
Sometimes again I am right. And sometimes I am wrong. I was wrong about Venom. While he is a Marvel character, his upcoming film from Sony Columbia will not be part of the Marvel Universe.
Avengers : Infinity War is the fastest film ever to cross the $1 billion mark at the box office.
And just as Lucas Film Ltd. has given us both episodic films and stand alone films, Marvel has said there will be stand alone films from them as well.
