Hey guys, I'm sure some of you might be familiar with my very odd fascination with kaiju (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaiju) and tokusatsu (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokusatsu) with its strange rubber monsters and cheesy special effects. I certainly think it makes for a very entertaining and wacky movie-watching session for just about any B-Movie goer, but I understand that it certainly isn't for all tastes.
While one could definitely consider just about anything out of this genre to be a good candidate for a B-Rated flick or program, it's not exactly as common of an interest as it used to be and there are only a select few forums I can think of that sort of have an interest in the genre, which is why I just wanted to ask for everyone here's opinion on the genre in general. I'd be real interested to see everyone's thoughts on the genre as a whole, or at least anyone who is familiar with it.
I'm one of the very few people (very, very few) who liked the 1998 Roland Emmerich Godzilla. That's why I have that gentleman on my coffee table. :teddyr:
Not Roland Emmerich himself, this guy: :wink:

I own a lot of Godzilla and various other Toho monster movies, so yeah, I like 'em.
Well, I do like my monsters on the larger side, so I watch plenty of kaiju films. Or if we're going to get technical daikaiju films.
As adding the prefix "dai" adds the size modifier to the translation:
kaiju="strange beast"
daikaiju="large strange beast"
Hadn't really got into the tv tokusatsu (the shows that were eventually turned into shows like Power Rangers and such). Not until I started going to G-Fest more often. Now I'm getting a little more interested.
I'm not a Giant Monster Movie expert by any means, but every once in a while nothin' hits the bad movie spot like a guy in a rubber monster suit stomping on a tiny model of a Japanese metropolis. It's like comfort food. :D

Agreed, nothing wrong with sitting down to enjoy a big, dumb, monster movie. :)
My favorite is still GODZILLA VS. MECHA GODZILLA (1974) aka GODZILLA VS. THE BIONIC MONSTER, or as in this poster -COSMIC MONSTER.
I wanted to go to the Strand and see it- but fate did not smile on me that Saturday. :bluesad:
But I seen it about a year later on TV. Still, I really wanted to go see it on the big screen.
