Mine would have to be Kubrick.
Yours?
I dunno. I like Kubrick. I like Leone too. And Scorsese. And Mario Bava.
I dunno.
Michael Bay or Brett Ratner (runs away and hides).
In all seriousness, it depends on my mood and what I want to watch. I can sit and watch 'Alien' almost anything early to mid John Carpenter or 'The Crow' and talk about film making techniques for hours afterwards, but sometimes I just want to switch off Mr Brain and be entertained by something meaningless and otherwise vapid beyond having big explosions, hot women and a senseless plot.
I can't pick just one - Kubrick, Nolan, Hitchcock, Tarantino, Wan, Iñárritu, Scorsese, Chaplin
I like WOODY ALLEN!
I like ALFRED HITCHCOCK.
I like JAMES WHALE.
I like MICHAEL POWELL.
I like FEDERICO FELLINI.
I like LUCHINO VISCONTI.
I like VITTORIO De SICA.
I like ROBERTO ROSSELLINI.
I like MICHAEL CURTIZ.
I can't pick one...

I'd like Spielberg more if he didn't put his bondage/woman in fiery peril fetish in so many of his movies.

That's a common place thing in movies since they began.

I don't know why-but you make politics about EVERYTHING.
Yet you have no problem with telling folks about your favorite sexy anime girl.
WTF?
I have strong feelings about politics too- but I don't eat, s**t ,and breathe it.
Lighten up, man.
"its only a movie-only a movie-only a movie'

Jesus that wasn't politics, that was society. At one time blackface and buckteeth racial stereotypes were OK. They're not anymore. A one time it was acceptable for women to be portrayed as helpless screaming objects to be put in oerial and rescused by the lead guy. It should bnot be that way anymore. No pilitics, dammit, just social and cultural evolution. Sheesh...
If you want to drapnpolitics into it Spielberg is liberal, and I'm pretty much on his side. I just get tired if seeing him have women in fiery peril in his movies. At times i imagine him wanking to images of women in peril. Why not have a woman rescue a guy for once?
Read my newest book if you want to see that happen!
(Sorry, spoiler!)
