Title: What do you drink?
Post by: RCMerchant on July 05, 2018, 07:54:48 PM
And I ain't talking soda pop!
If you drink-name your poison?

Mine-depends. If my $ is low- I go for Ten High Whiskey or Canada House. If I'm good in the pocket, I'll buy Black Velvet. If I'm really
broke I buy rot-gut Arrow Gin or Vodka.

I almost never drink.  I'll maybe have what others would call "p*ss beer" when I'm in the hot tub.  I don't care-- I want my beer LIGHT.

If I'm at a bar and someone demands to buy me a drink I'll throw down some Wild Turkey to warm me up.  Or if I'm gonna be at the bar for a while and PBR is cheap I may have a little.

I drink red wine, particularly Cabarnet Sauvignon.  I also like Pinot Noir and Shiraz and Malbec, probably any red that's not sweet... however, I don't like Merlot unless there's nothing else to drink.  The Cabarnet Sauvignon I drink comes in a BOX that costs about $18 and has 5 liters which is about 3 and a third big bottles (1.5 liter).  You can expect to pay around $10 for an "inexpensive" red wine in a 1.5 liter bottle.

I'll drink beer, but not a fan.

I don't drink cocktails anymore; except I'll drink Martinis.  And though I've had rotgut gin, I like gin.  The better the gin is, the more I like it.   I went into a bar and ordered a martini and the ... "lady" ... behind the bar picked up the vodka... I said: "I ordered a martini" she replied "everybody wants a vodka martini..."  I hadn't realized when one orders a martini, one had best be clear and state "GIN" martini.     :hatred:

Apart from a rare beer, I don't touch hard liquor, not even wine or champagne.

Bottled ales, craft beers, whisky (both single malt and blends). I am completely ignoring the current craze for gin that seems to be sweeping the UK.

Usually Jom Beam for whiskey. My dad has a bunch of rum, but I do love Bumbo rum over ice. I mainly drink at the bar that has cocktails. I mainly stick to whiskey , and tequila drinks.

usually malt liquor ( Steel reserve ,King Cobra) with a watery light beer after like bud light lime.

Occasionally I drink fancy belgian ales like delerium tremens or imperial stout type things. If I'm at a bar I'll order a guiness or something.

I don't like bitter hoppy sort of beers which is most american ones

Mead. I drink it ice cold with about 50% water.  I have still never been drunk though, I just really like the taste.  It's like concentrated honey, but when water is added it's almost like a light apple cider without the apple flavor.  After 2 glasses I start to feel like it might be too much.  I don't really drink anything else unless it's something tasty and even then I will only have a bit.  I have no desire to drink something that tastes like crap to make me act like a buffoon and then feel like crap later.  If I'm going to lose my cool, it better be from something really good.

Beer here!

I don't really have a "brand loyalty" when it comes to beer. I'm always trying new/different things. I tend to stick mostly to lagers/pilsners, tho. I don't care for stouts or other  dark/bitter beers.

I'm also not a fan of these super expensive micro-thingies that are made with cinnamon and orange peels and peanut butter and whatever other nonsense hipsters jam into the brew tank to make it "gourmet." Just gimme a friggin beer.

When people ask what my favorite beer is, my standard answer is "When I can afford it, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. When I can't, Old Milwaukee."

mostly cheap 3.2 beer, right now it's hamm's. for hard liquor, it's a vodka margarita or a vodka sour. can't stand whiskey or rum, and i got tired of gin.
once in a blue moon, i like a nice leibfromilch(sp?) , but no champagne or red wine.

For many years I was almost exclusively a scotch drinker (Johnnie Walker Black was my "every day" brand . . . but I would keep a bottle or two of single malt on hand for special "sipping" occasions).

Several years ago, I acquired a taste for martinis (which is strange because I hated gin all my life). So, now, I drink Bombay Sapphire martinis much more often than I drink scotch.

My wife (who is from Brazil) introduced me to Caipirinhas about 25 years ago. If made properly, they are delicious, refreshing and will knock you on your ass. If made poorly, they don't taste very good.

In my younger years, I went through a couple different phases (tequila for a year or two, Jim Beam for a year or two).

When I'm in the mood for a shot, it's usually Sambuca.

I also drink beer and wine and definitely Margaritas when I have Mexican food.

From 1980 until 1984, I drank beer. At the time PBR was cheap. But cheaper was some nasty s**t called Huber.
In upstate NY in 1979, I drank Rolling Rock, I think it was called? Had and an Angel or Fairy on a rock on the label?

I drink Rolling Rock, yes it's made in NJ now, but was in PA.

I used to be almost entirely a beer drinker. Now I am drinking more bourbon (on the rocks, usually).

I will still have a Guinness Draught most nights before bed.

I want to get more into making cocktails. I've sort of adopted the American Beauty (equal parts OJ, grenadine, brandy, and vermouth, with a splash oif Creme de Menthe) as my "signature" cocktail. It's easy to make, tasty, and mildly impressive to company.

I ordered it but it hasn't arrived yet. Mr. Boston is not publishing a hard copy of the book anymore, they are just operating on the web, but I want something to hold.

These are also called "Laser Beams" in some bars. I drank a lot of these over a period of a couple of years. They go down smooth. I still ask for them occasionally, but I find that many bartenders aren't familiar with them.

This is the main bar that I go to. I avoid the gin drinks since I don't like the taste of gin. I usually get a Sazerac Royale, Sheilavsit, Cafe Creole, Brandy Milk Punch, or an End of the Road

Mostly beer and whiskey, although I'll get the occasional bottle of rum or tequila for home and that can last me as I don't drink them often unless it's a holiday.

As far as beer, I've a few go-to's:
Bud Light- a lot of people hate it for some reason, but I like it the most over others
Natty Ice--a case of 30 goes for like $13 here or some insanely low price.  It's frozen at some point, so there's a tad more alcohol in it (6.0% abv compared to most light beers 4.0%)
Yuengling--Not sure if this is a nationally known brand, but I live outside Philly and this is produced in Pottstown, PA.  They have an ice cream, too.

Whiskey, I stick to Jameson for the most part, although I do like Jack Daniels.

Green Tea shot--I don't know if anyone here has had it.  It's Jameson, Peach Schnapps, Sprite and a touch of lemon sour mix, shaken, and poured.  It tastes like Green Tea, goes down smooth, but a few of them can get you going.

Dislike alcohol in all forms of it I've tried so far.

I mostly drink water, and sometimes pepsi or dr pepper or mr pibb.

Not a fan of the hard stuff mostly I tend to stick with IPAs. Trader Joe's does have a very nice lager I enjoy though, and at $4 for a six pack it's hard to top.

I rarely drink soda pop. I drink LOTS of water. And I love unsweetened black tea. Hot or cold.
And black coffee.

rev, a word to the wise about the book. mr. boston is NOTORIOUS for bad proofreading , so it's good to have a paper copy you can write in to make corrections to recipes, besides the basic comfort of having a phy'sical object to hold.
happy, i drink quite a bit of yuengling when i'm in florida, my friend's maternal family is from pennsylvania.
last night i tried a orange flavored " hard seltzer", it was DISGUSTING.

Apparently a lot of PA transplants to Florida now.  So much they even added Wawa's to the state of Florida and that's from where I live.  Also, those hard seltzers are disgusting.

My original order was canceled/lost in the mail so I had to try ordering it from someone else. Still coming, supposedly...

Louisville locals are crazy about Yeungling, I have no idea why. I used to drink it in PA and thought it was nothing special. The porter was the only exceptional beer they brewed, and they stopped making it... though I'd be willing to give their black and tan a shot. (Even though you can't really put black and tan in a bottle, it's supposed to be layered).

To tie the Wawa's back to drinking, there's a bar I go to around here that's half a block from a Wawa and a few minutes from my home.  A Wawa hoagie or meatball sub with a salad comes in handy at 2:30 in the morning. :buggedout:

now that is funny, because i also discovered the wawa mac& chz after a night of drinking and watching drag queens at hamburger mary's! their kitchen was closed, i  was starving, and i have REALLY good friends who don't mind indulging my need for carbs after drinking, lol!
there's a question for a new thread, what do you eat after drinking alcohol in copious amounts?

There's literally an exodus of us all from the bar to Wawa and the overnight crew is like "Ah, sh*t."  I've gotten to know a few of them so a quick text from me to one is like, important.  "Guys, bar's closing."  They'll have mine waiting and I get home.  That's if I go there.  Depends if I'm walking or with friends, and we'll go to a 24-hr diner.

My only try at making homemade wine (blackberry) was a huge failure. I used bread yeast. Not the right strain for winemaking, it turns out.
