Title: Longer cut of CREEPSHOW?
Post by: Chris K. on May 27, 2002, 03:10:15 PM
From what I originally heard, CREEPSHOW was released in 1981 by United Film Distribution at a running time of 130. Later on, Warner Brothers picked up the film for a more wider distribution and it was released at a running time of 120.

Has anybody heard of this? I really can't verify it as true, but I do know one thing. In the Warner Bros. trailer their is a shot of a lady looking at a corpse in a morgue and it is not in the Warner Bros. version!

It doesn't suprise me to hear that there's 10 extra minutes that were cut out from "Creepshow",which was a major studio film.
I'm sure that your friendly neighborhood video bootlegger has that 130 minute director cut of "Creepshow" lurking out there somewhere(on the pub;ic domain market).

I'm bored so I searched for the longer cut of Creepshow on the net and found the following

Supercreeps - tape costs $16 plus 3 shipping
http://www.meadownet.com/supercreeps/Pages/SC-Catalog.htm

They also had a few other vids that seemed interesting, but I've never ordered from them so you never know what there service is like

There were some scenes trimmed by Romero prior to release, most likely to tighten the movie up (I'm most aware of the flashback scene in a morgue for the Father's Day chapter). The footage sliced really didn't 'add' anything to the stories but time (from a storytelling standpoint the 'hunting accident' is perfectly handled both in flashback and monologue, more detail could have seemed extraneous).  Frankly I'd be more interested in the original two hour and fifty minute cut of Knightriders and, even more, the original two hour and forty-five minute cut of Martin (Romero has been needled for making llllooonnng movies).  But a deleted scene option on a special edition DVD would be nice (if the rights for the cut footage is owned by Warners, it might be owned by Rubenstein).

There is a workprint out there for creepshow. I've never seen it but it exists. Wasn't the footage from Martin stolen? I might be confusing it with another film but I think it was that one.
