After being in development limbo for almost a decade, Steve Alten's novel about a modern day encounter with a Megalodon shark has arrived and I can honestly say...it was decent enough.
The best way to describe this movie is that it feels like a straight to video killer shark movie that managed to get itself a real budget and some star power. Something you might see on Syfy would have almost the identical script, but with worse spfx.
I read the book a while ago, and this adaptation does make a lot of changes. Some for the better some for the worse. I would have loved if they kept the original prologe of the book and shown a megalodon attacking a T-Rex that had waded into the ocean.
Sadly, at no point does Jason Stalehem 's character use a karate chop against the giant shark.
Not a bad way to spend an evening, but I'd say wait for it to be on televison, or streaming or however you watch movies when they leave the theater.
Yeah, enjoyed it but it wasn't amazing. I kept wanting to see more parts from the book. You could see a few parts here and there (the clear plastic shark cage, helicopters crashing into each other) but it really did bear much resemblance to the novel.
So they didn't go full metal moron and have the navy bring in the Nautilus? Well that's something...
