I read Steve Alten's novel when it first came out in paperback some 20 years ago, and when I saw that it had been optioned for a movie I was quite excited. But the idea bounced from studio to studio, and then the SyFy Channel slammed out a string of shark movies that went from bad to worse, and so the concept got put on the back burner for 20 years. Now, at last, the most terrifying predator to ever roam the planet's oceans explodes on to the big screen in suitably gory fashion. This is the most entertaining and well done shark movie since JAWS, and the giant shark is frighteningly realistic. Jason Statham is his usual understated tough guy action hero self; the romantic angle is fun and not overblown, and Raine Wilson provides some great comic relief. Overall, my wife and I both enjoyed this movie a LOT. Worth spending ten bucks to see in the theater! 5/5
Glad you enjoyed it. When I was watching it I thought it was your kind of movie.
