I watched THE WANDERERS (1979) on TCM the other night. I haven't seen that in nearly 40 years!!! I remembered it well enough, it was even more surreal than I'd thought, but it had all the gangs, violence, and sex I remembered right! :teddyr:
THE WANDERERS reminded me of all the GANG MOVIES that I usually enjoy... I won't name anymore and leave it to you all...

My favorite, Switchblade Sisters (1975)

The warriors.
Don't forget west side story.
Do motorcycle gangs count?
If so, the WILD ANGEL'S with Peter Fonda and Bruce Dern is fantatic!

Of course they count and that's a GOOD one.
REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE
I was a fan of the Young and Dangerous series, as trashy as they are about triads in Hong Kong
! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlbykcK5SK4#)
The Warriors as mentioned above is my go-to favourite though. That soundtrack is killer.
REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE is fantastic.
So are-. The WILD ONE with Marlon Brando and Lee Marvin.
.the CHALKBOARD JUNGLE is classic Vic Morrow starts breaking music teacher's Glenn Ford's classical records. Great.
.CLASS OF 1984- Where Roddy McDowall quizzes his brain dead punk students at gunpoint!
. NEW JACK CITY
. AMERICAN HISTORY X

Remember it? I have the DVD! And let's not forget that Ray Sharkey is in it (basically, an extra)
ACROSS 110TH STREET (1972) is fantastic.
This movie comes closest what the Bronx looked like when I lived there in 1979.
I never seen cops shoot it out but, that's what the Bronx looked like. Only in 1979, it was much worse.
It looked like Berlin in 1946. No s**t.

I don't know if I've seen that. I know the title... Cool.
I was thinking of
DEAD END (1937). There's so much to like about it, first 'cause it's
HUMPHREY BOGART's first great movie after
PETRIFIED FOREST. I love when his mother slaps him and threatens to
"crack yer face again!" http://youtu.be/clcU_DskWHI (http://youtu.be/clcU_DskWHI)
People interested in gang movies may want t read this book.

The late, great and utterly irrepressible Harlan Ellison.
Hey, what about Our Gang? Spanky had a pocketknife one time, and looked prepared to use it.
DEAD END is great. So is ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES, with almost the same cast!

I was just about to mention ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES. It's one of my most-watched movies of all time.

When I was a kid in the mid-70's I had a little black and white TV in my bedroom, and early in the morning on the weekend they would play old James Cagney, Bogey, and Edward G. Robinson movies. It would be like 6:00 in the morning. On Channel 13 out of Kalamazoo.
I love ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES...
THE ROARING TWENTIES (1939) is another one of those JAMES CAGNEY / HUMPHREY BOGART films, about GANGS, and GREAT!!!

I love the Warriors and the Wanderers even more; we did a podcast on it; it was one of my favorites to review.
