That company Ed McMahon worked for where he'd show up on people's doorsteps and give them giant checks? Without looking, anyone know off the top of your head?
Publisher's clearing house...?
WAH-RONG!
I remember Ed McMahon doing commercials for Publisher's Clearing House, everyone does. It became a phrase, "I wish Ed McMahon would bring my check from Publisher's Clearing House....."
But now there's this thing going around the internet saying he never worked for PCH and never went to anyone's house holding any giant checks, he only did a few commercials for one of PCH's rivals, and people are freaking out about it. Even Forbes did an article on this seeming discrepancy between memory and reality, and some are going so far as to suggest it is a time slip that shows reality has been altered.
Pretty strange.

Exactly. Wonder what else is different in this alternate reality?
I read all sortsa stuff about 'time slips'.
:drink: It kills me, man.
Come to think of it, though, it WASN'T PCH. I forget the name of the group that did the giveaway, but I do remember those junk mails with Ed's picture and his famous tag line, "YOU may already be winner!"
But the commercials with the giant checks for PCH didn't have McMahan. I think they were so similar that people just ran them together.
Interesting, though.

I think it's fun to make a game of finding oddities in memory.
Like despite everyone singing it as, "....It's a beautiful day in
the neighborhood..." Mr. Rogers' opening theme song is (now?) him singing, "...."It's a beautiful day in
this neighborhood..." Look it up on YouTube, he clearly (now?) sings "this" instead of "the" even in forty-year-old episodes. Either everyone's been wrong in a song we've heard and sung all our lives, or....what? lol
Oh, and did you know the scarecrow in
The Wizard of Oz (now?) packs a gun? He does! He carries a pistol. Ever seen him carrying a pistol? I sure don't remember him carrying a pistol. If you do, maybe this is your native reality and that's how it's always been. Me, I'm weirded out.
Are people's memories faulty and that explains it all? Almost certainly, yeah, but it's fun to find these large-scale discrepancies and wonder about alternate realities, string theory, CERN's mad scientist experiments, God playing practical jokes, the lunacy of human life.
And I also love how these make people scramble to explain them.
