I wonder if anyone still believes he old saw about venomous snakes having slit pupils and non venomous having round pupils, I heard that when I was a kid.
It is true of pit vipers but not of coral snakes; generally a safe guideline here in the USA at any rate.
All this talk abiut snakes reminded me of this video. Yiu said yiucd chase harmless snakes, I doubt ifnyiucs even linger long enough to film this scene.

We have a wildlife nature area near where I live, and there are water moccasins, and they are well named. When they open their mouths to hiss at you, they do look like they have a mouth full of cotton. Though, the open mouth and hissing is mostly trying to bluff you, as they are probably as scared of you, as you are of them.
