Title: Horror movies were they forgot the horror
Post by: chainsaw midget on June 05, 2019, 08:28:44 AM
I'm not talking about movies that try to be scary but aren't.  At least somebody made a half hearted attempt on those.

I'm talking about the movies where it's billed as a horror movie, but most of the movie is about something else.  it's the kind of movie were people's relationships are more important than the killer or people sit around talking for an hour and 15 minutes and then the monster shows up in the last 15 minutes.

The most recent one of these I've seen was Happy Death Day 2U.  The first was was a decent slasher with a twist to it.

The sequel... they seemed to forget all about the serial killer aspect for 90% of the movie and instead focused more on the time travel plot and the rom-com aspects.  There's even a lengthy humor montage where the main character kills herself everyday just so the real killer can't get her first.  Yeah, that's what i come to horror movies for to NOT watch the killer get people.

So what kinds of "this isn't really horor is it?" movies have you seen?

Alone In The Dark comes closest to this for me: starts off scary and then someone thought: the hell with the horror.  :teddyr:

Monsters. Was heavily advertised as a sci fi horror but turned out to be more of a love story.

Wolfblood (1925) was mostly standard western melodrama.
