Not a huge fan of his books, but apparently this is a list of the movies he considers to be the scariest. Many of the films on his list are surprisingly modern. I was looking down this list and thinking, hmm not what I'd consider scary but everyone has their own opinion. Then I got to one of his picks and just thought "WTF?"

I'm thinking "WTF?" on lotsa this.
Well, he thought his TV version of the SHINING was better than Kubrick's, so.....
OK, Stephan, you can s**t out books like Stan Lee s**ts out comics, but your taste in horror films is dismal.
Since when is Deep Blue Sea a horror film?

That is the one that made me go "WTF?"
I like his faves. I actually own all of them, some great modern horror right there
Sorcerer too: it's not a horror film but a remake of the French film The Wages of Fear directed by William Friedkin
I'm unimpressed.
Really NO ...
THE HAUNTING
CARNIVAL OF SOULS
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD
BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN
CASTLE OF BLOOD (aka DANZA MACABRE) ...
TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE
BLACK SUNDAY
The thing 1982?
Alien?

I agree. I don't find his books very readable, either.

I thought the same thing but I was already out of control.
Several of those are favorites of mine as well.
I think i'd like Stephen king personally, but I just can't read his books. I tried a couple.
I laughed pretty hard at FINAL DESTINATION.
Stephen King is overrated. :twirl:
The first FD film was really good, and built some wonderful suspense - right up to the end. The end ruined it for me!
my brad went to fantastfest last year as mr. monopoly, and an AMAZING amount of people thought HE WAS stephen king. and brad was completely clueless as to who stephen is, his brother had to explain it. i don't see the resemblance myself, lol!
My brother-in-law met Stephen King once. He said he has soulless, dead eyes.

Suspenseful, yes. But I wouldn't call it scary. Both the original and the remake are worth multiple viewings, though.
I think King went with stuff he liked that usually gets overlooked. His list seems purposely devoid of the classics.
