Title: ICE ("Immersive Cinema Experience") Coming To North America
Post by: claws on July 17, 2019, 02:14:04 PM
QuoteAEG and CGR Cinemas are bringing "ICE" theaters ("immersive cinema experience) to North America for the first time. The technology, which has been around in France for awhile, is the newest "Premium Large Format" idea to arrive over here in hopes of both challenging IMAX (and Dolby Vision) and banking on moviegoers willing to pay a little extra for a little extra.

"The ICE ("Immersive Cinema Experience") THEATER concept launched two-and-a-half years ago, combining state-of-the-art design and excellence in sound and image technologies with the revolutionary ICE IMMERSIVE sensorial experience. ICE IMMERSIVE technology features five non-reflecting LED-panels flanking each side of the auditorium to fill the moviegoer's peripheral vision with complementary colors from the front screen. CGR's in-house post-production team in La Rochelle creates ambient images for the panels and syncs them to each film showcased using this technology."

Each location features luxury seats, superior immersive sound and RGB laser projection , along with the "ICE IMMERSIVE" experience with LED panels on the side walls.

The first theater, beginning this Fall, will be at Regal L.A. Live.

So, complementary colors and ambient images on the side walls is new technology. I'd say its just a gimmick to lure people.

I remember years ago they tried an immersive tv gimmick. There was a tv with banks of leds on the back that would project the ambient color of the screen on the walls of the room to make the whole room have gthe same lighting as the screen.

Sound dumb? Can't figure out the benefit?  You're nowhere near alone, neither could the public. I I assume the few made are  collector items now.

They should bring back Smell-O-Vision. Now that was cool.

Not if you're  watching blazing saddles.

On the same lines as immersive cinema I used to see special thump vests made to be worn by gamers and hooked to a computer that has special vibrator motors meant to produce a thump feeling when you got hit in a shooter game,  they we're front send back.

Not really a seller.
