i.e. directors who only have one solitary directing credit to their name (according to imdb)...
Buddy Cooper: THE MUTILATOR
https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0177908/filmotype/director?ref_=m_nmfm_2
I love this film so much. in my top 10 bad movies of all time for sure, and maybe creeping into my top 10, period!
apparently Buddy had a choice between buying a vineyard or making a movie. I'm glad he chose the latter. never directed anything before or since.
feel free to add on any more movie one-hit wonders. (I'm aware some directors use pseudonyms, so those would not count)
edit
The one-hit-wonder parade:
THE MUTILATOR (Buddy Cooper)
THE NOSTRIL PICKER (Mark Nowicki)
DEMENTIA (John Parker)
TOXIC ZOMBIES (Charles McCrann)
NIGHT OF THE HUNTER (Charles Laughton)
MANOS THE HANDS OF FATE (Harold P. Warren)
THE NAILGUN MASSACRE (Bill Leslie & Terry Lofton)
ELECTRA GLIDE IN BLUE (James William Guercio)
MYSTERY MEN (Kinka Usher)
PHASE IV (Saul Bass)
RETURN TO OZ (Walter Murch)
CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC (Nancy Walker)
THE CREEPING TERROR (Vic Savage)
RABBIT TEST (Joan Rivers)
MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE (Steven King)
AFTER LAST SEASON (Mark Region)
here's another
Mark Nowicki: THE NOSTRIL PICKER

I'm a big fan of this one as well. low quality in every way but very off the wall for a slasher
The guy who made DEMENTIA/DAUGHTER OF HORROR.
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0662368/ (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0662368/)
Almost nothing is known of his life. (He has another IMDB credit but it appears to be just a remix of DAUGHTER OF HORROR by someone else decades later).
Charles Laughton famously gave up directing after NIGHT OF THE HUNTER (a masterpiece) flopped, though he may have helped co-direct an earlier movie uncredited.
Charles McCrann only directed Toxic Zombies. It was made in 1980 and he didn't do really anything else in film before passing away during the 9/11 attacks.
Harold P. Warren, who directed "Xxxxx the xxxxx of xxxx. ". (Sorry but I don't want to curse the board by naming the most accursed of movies. The only movie so bad the mads apologized to Joe and the bots form showing it to them.)
Bill Leslie and Terry Lofton: THE NAIL GUN MASSACRE
https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0504065/filmotype/director?ref_=m_nmfm_1
https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0517475/filmotype/director?ref_=m_nmfm_2
one co-directing credit each, making them...half-hit wonders?

Purpotedly if you stand in front if a mirror and say "Xxxx the xxxxxx of xxxx" 3 times the ghost of Cecil B. DeMille will come and strangle yoiu with a length of celluooid film.
I nominate Michael Cimino.

he has 7 or 8 directing credits on imdb...unless I'm missing something?

I'll respectfully disagree with Trevor as I really like both The Deer Hunter and Heaven's Gate
I mean he scored big with The Deer Hunter and to a lesser extent with Thunderbolt & Lightfoot, but his career crashed and burned with Heaven's Gate which I had to sit through in 1981.
yeah, but I'm just talking about guys who literally directed one movie

It's rumored that the film was actually directed by producer Bruno DeSota, who's best known as an actor (remember the fat guy in ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES?).

I think even DeSota himself only claimed to have co-directed it.

nice. never heard of it, but the imdb reviews make me want to see it...sounds really good.
Mystery Men (1999) by Kinka Usher. He is a TV commercial director, Mystery Men was his only feature film.
Phase IV (1974) by Saul Bass. When Phase IV flopped he decided not to direct anymore.
Return to Oz (1985) by Walter Murch.

Return to oz was a good movie.
Comedienne/actress Nancy Walker (of TV's "Rhoda" and Bounty paper towel commercial fame) has several TV directing credits but only directed one feature film: the 1980 disco catastrophe "Can't Stop The Music" starring the Village People.

Sam Mraovich - director, producer, star and writer of one of the best bad movies out there
Ben and Arthur
Bradley Cooper - 2018 A Star is Born
Claws - that was the first one that came to mind. AWESOME movie (phase 4)
Vic Savage aka A.J.Nelson, who gave us the CREEPING TERROR (1964).
Didn't Joan "b'tch mouth" Rivers direct a movie about a man getting pregnant? I think it was called "rabbit test".
One search later...
Yep.

didn't even know that. interesting that he didn't direct any more, considering how many he wrote
the soundtrack album by AC/DC was one of the first albums I ever bought
Apologies for mentioning this film but Mark Region who directed After Last Season :buggedout:

It's a "wonder," all right. You wonder what he was thinking, wonder why it was made, wonder how it was made...
Not so much a "hit," except that maybe you feel like you're brain's been hit with a baseball bat...
only ever seen a few clips of that one, couldn't watch the whole thing... just lifeless
here's a rundown of what we have so far.
- not including Tommy Wiseau because of his upcoming film, Bradley Cooper because he may well direct more, and the guy that directed BEN AND ARTHUR seems to have another film he directed in 2017.
THE MUTILATOR (Buddy Cooper)
THE NOSTRIL PICKER (Mark Nowicki)
DEMENTIA (John Parker)
TOXIC ZOMBIES (Charles McCrann)
NIGHT OF THE HUNTER (Charles Laughton)
MANOS THE HANDS OF FATE (Harold P. Warren)
THE NAILGUN MASSACRE (Bill Leslie & Terry Lofton)
ELECTRA GLIDE IN BLUE (James William Guercio)
MYSTERY MEN (Kinka Usher)

I think Frank Sinatra directed one film too: None But The Brave.
yep, looks like he did...
not often you can say Frank Sinatra and "one hit wonder" in the same sentence
Jack Lemmon too: he directed the movie Kotch.
Tom Green directed the vile filth known as Freddy Got Fingered
