Title: The Boys
Post by: ER on July 31, 2019, 12:54:59 PM
On Amazon Prime. Mid-way through and we're unexpectedly enjoying it. If superheroes existed, this is probably how life would go.

I've seen that trailer and will admit, I am intrigued.
If you like this I think you would like BRIGHTBURN.

Saw an ad for it, so I looked it up on Amazon. Got to say I'm a bit leery, as the summary gives the impression that it wallows in cynicism. Is this an accurate assessment, or am I just getting a false signal?

I don't know if cynicism is the right term, but it's close. Predictable would be a good description too. The series has ceased to be fun and I still have three episodes left. This is one of those shows that would have been a better movie than a series, but the concept is intriguing and is probably how a world with superheroes would go.

The documentary about people with really big signatures?

It was a movie several years back starring Will Smith, about a superhero with amnesia and a drinking problem.

She knew that,  just another shot at me.

That wasn't a shot at you, you egocentric paranoid, unemployed, self-important girlfriendless loser, it was a joke. In your world the sun truly revolves around you and your cats and that dump you live in, doesn't it? (See, now that was a shot. For future reference, learn the difference.)

Half of Hancock was a good movie.

As for The Boys, I avoided it because I'm familiar with the writer of the original comic and he tends to be very petty, insulting, and mean spiritied when doing any kind of superhero work.

I think that's funny.   :bouncegiggle:

HANCOCK is such a weird movie. It starts great with an awesome premise, but halfway throught it's clear that the writers didn't knew how to continue the story and just spew the most generic garbage they could come up with.
I feel like it suffered the same fate as KNOWING.

Maybe they were trying the "exquisite corpse" method?

I really enjoyed this, I ended up watching it over  three days and I think I'm going to watch it again.

It picked up a whole lot at the end after dragging in the middle and ended up being good. Looking forward to next season.
