I liked the proirot series starring David suchet that used to run on A&E when it was, aeons ago, worthy of being called the Arts and Entertainment channel as opposed to the trailers and trash channel it became and sadly remains.
I thought their remake of murder on the orient express was good if not as true to the book at the original. It explored poirot's religion more that AC ever did, and in the original poirot was driven mostly by his ego to solve the murder and had no difficulty letting the murder go unsolved once he had established for his ego's sake that he had not been fooled by the conspirators. In th remake poirot struggled with his religious views and was very hard out to let the killers go.
The death of poirot nearly had me in tears.
I believe this was a special project for David Suchet, who wanted to put on film every one of Agatha Christie's (and that is Dame Agatha Christie, you peasant) stories that feature Poirot. It may have taken him 24 years to do it, but--apparently--he did it, having completed the most complete film series of Poirot to date. When I did have a TV, so I could watch TV, this was one of my favorite TV series, as I made it a point to watch it, when ever it was on TV.
Though, I think my favorite characters was not Poirot, but the secondary characters in the series, such as Captain Hastings, Inspector Japp, Miss Lemon, etc. Good times. Good watching.

Suchet is the definitive Poirot, like Jeremy Brett was the end-all be-all of Sherlock Holmes, and Roy Marsden embodied Adam Dalgliesh even beyond the written character. Suchet doing Poirot is an absolute delight to behold. Like Brett he transcends self and becomes the man. He's amazing.
I also have enjoyed the recent Father Brown revival, even if it bastardizes the original Chesterton material and characters almost to the point of defamation. It gets Brown's simple, patient kindness of heart right, and that is its saving grace.
You're right about suchet, but Peter Ustinov wasn't hard to watch in his poirot major movies. Albery finney was ok in MotOE mostly because he had a hell of a cast supporting him.
But suchet really made poirot his own. Suckey is a hell of an actor given the very cruel and brutal characters he's played in some movies, like iron eagle and the falcon and the snowman, it's a tribute he can play the intelligent and often kindly poirot.

1st. I threw in the towel a long time ago, when all the choices became too confusing.
2nd. I have better ways to spend my money.
3rd. I do not see well in the dark, so when it was too dark to drive home, I stayed in a hotel and for the 1st time in years, I had access to a TV with multiple channels, but, do you know what? There was nothing on TV that I wanted to watch.
It's going to becoming confusing again, but, this time I am watching from the sidelines
