Title: Speaking of dracula...
Post by: Svengoolie 3 on August 19, 2019, 10:27:16 PM
Drac ia often portrayed as wearing a red ribbon around his neck with a medallion or some sort of decoration hanging from it.

Has there ever been any sort of explanation as to what it was?

Bela was even buried with it or one like it.

Here's a replica-

It's been said the ribbon was blue, for what it's worth.
His cape, on the other hand, did NOT have a red liner. It's was salmon colored.

Interesting, since the real Vlad Tepish  (Drakyula, or "Son of the Dragon", was he was sometimes known) slaughtered Muslims by the thousands trying to keep Wallachia free from Turkish rule.

This is true!
Once a Turkish ambassador who was visting him refused to remove his turban in Vlad's castle- so Vlad obliged him and ordered it nailed into his head!

Yep, ol' Vlad the impaler was a monster, a sadist and in all likelihood a socio or psychopath. But he was the man Europe needed to keep the turks from invading it and forcing Islam on it. He scared the Muslims. They were  afraid of him.

A movie or miniseries abut the real Vladimir tepesh would be horrifying,  revolting and fascinating.
