Well I just called 911.
We heard weird noises like loud pops, not quite like gunfire but also not quite like anything else. I saw blue greenish lights flashing not quite like police nights and no red but again not sure what it was. Dared a peek around me house and in a yard behind us one of those large metal cans on a power pole was just popping wit massive electrical flashes and making those loud pops.
Needless to say I called 911 as I was thinking "explosion imminent" .
911 asked if I called my utility and I said I didn't have time to look up their number so the lady said she'd call them and cut me off.
So far things seem OK. But damn that was something i'd never seen before...
To my utter amazement we still have power here....
Power gives us so much trouble around here, I've got the number written on the wall...
We lost power for a while last night but damn, they had it back pretty quick. All in all I was amazed at how little trouble this caused. Seriously this thing was flashing like a giant strobe light and sounding like an assault rifle.
I have to give our power workers credit. Our lights were out for a very minimal time and they were working in sh-t weather.
Sounds like a transformer exploded near you.
That's my best guess. It was one of those largre light Grey cylinders on some power poles.
No I donct hace a video because eunlike some peolle I reported a dangerous situation at once instead of videoing it to post to face book.
Just looked over the area. A harsh bitter stench still lingers. Burnt electrucal smell.
I've heard transformers explode before, hell one got me out of bed last week. I take it you're not familiar with those exploding during a lightning storm?

The damn thing is it didn't fully explode. It was flashing like a giant strobe light (color was a little greenish to be a xenon strobe) and popping as loud as gunfire and I damn well expected it to explode but but apparently cleared the short and worked for a couple more. Hours until it was taken down and replaced.
Out local utility workers, I gotta hand it to them.<3 Fast and professional service even in sh-t weather.

One exploded in front of our house 2 years ago. Ka-POW!
