Title: Little Big Man (1970)
Post by: ER on September 03, 2019, 09:37:55 AM
Having read and loved Thomas Berger's Arthur Rex, still my favorite modern re-telling of the Camelot stories, I branched out into that writer's other works. (The fact that Mr. Berger was, bizarrely enough, an acquaintance of my grandpa's early in life was also kind of motivating.)

While the Old West is just not a topic to pull me forward like Dark Age Britain did, I loved both the book and movie Little Big Man, and it's one of those films where I find something new with every viewing. Dustin Hoffman earned his paycheck here and showed off his acting range, no one in the vast supporting cast took a single misstep that I could see, and a few scenes ("I've never been invisible before!") are memorable, even if sometimes the subject matter is disturbing and the inhumanity of mankind's conduct serves to sadden the spirit.

See this movie if you want to: learn to shoot a gun without touching it, enjoy seeing a preacher's wife end up in a brothel, or need convincing that under enough geriatric makeup Dustin Hoffman looks like the old man in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

How do I rate Little Big Man? On a Halloween candy score of a whole Snicker bar (the best!) down to a three-pack of sweet tarts (get your windows soaped), I sum it up as a handful of bite-size Three Musketeers, satisfying and leaving you wanting more.

Yes- it's mostly inaccurate historically.
I Loved it the first time I seen it back in the 70's. I still love it.
Chief Dan George is the star for me.

"it's a good day to die!"

I always loved this movie, for lots of reasons.
I have an Uncle John I didn't know was still alive. He's 106! My sister Brenda told me yesterday he's still alive!
I usta U-Pick strawberries with him back when he was in his 60's over 40 years ago!
What that has to do with LITTLE BIG MAN I'm not sure-
