Title: Polanski movies?
Post by: Svengoolie 3 on September 28, 2019, 06:06:21 PM
I know  roman polanski is supposed to be this awesome director and a screen legend,  but,  honestly,  I can't say I really thought much of any of his movies.  The only one I remember was the fearless vampire killers and even that was kinda "meh" to me.

Valley of the dolls was a big controversial movie in it's  day but frankly it made me wanna take some sleeping pills.

It didn't even get mentioned on my controversial movie thread here.

So,  if anyone does and can admit it, does anyone think much of polanski's films or agree with his "legendary" status?

We all know what he did,  so no need to rehash it. This is just about his movies and his status as a super director.

VALLEY OF THE DOLLS is not a ROMAN POLANSKI film.

Oh yeah,  got it mixed up with him due to Sharon tate. Somehow her and him got conflated. So I can't really think of ma NY movies he directed then. Why was he famous?

He's famous for CHINATOWN and the "apartment trilogy": REPULSION, ROSEMARY'S BABY and THE TENANT, all excellent psychological horror movies.

Of the  movies he directed I really like Repulsion,  Cul-de-sac, Rosemary's Baby and The Pianist.

I think Chinatown and the Ninth Gate are ok.

I'll go with these as well. And the FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS.

Ok he made some the,  many not my kind if movie but that doesn't make them bad. I know  rosemary's baby and TFVK,  I've heard of Chinatown.

Ok he may have earned his legend. Still he drugged and raped a 12 year old. Why does Hollywood still yearn for his return?  They'e essentially exiled peolle for far less.

^ This is all true. I think we can all agree he was a scumbag. And HP Lovecraft was a racist, as was Leni Riefenstahl. Andy Milligan, from s**t I read was a real scumbag. Fact of the matter is- they were good at what the did, art wise.
I think we are in a phase now like we were then. Folks are scared of 'outsiders'.
I think everybody seems scared of everybody.
WTF am I saying? It's always been that way.  :bluesad:

H. P. Lovecraft was a product of his  times. In his day racism was casual and acceptable.  Drugging and raping a 13 year old was not acceptable in the 70's.

And as loud as the PC brigade will scream about it, using racist language doesn't even begin to compare to drugging a raping a 13 year old girl.

There's no comparison between lovecraft saying ni--er  in some of his stories and what polanski did.

Hey, Sven, I think you said in the topic that there was no need to rehash that.  You should probabaly listen to you.

Do you want to talk about why he has a reputation for great movies or do you want to slam on him for being a scumbag?  Those are two very different topics.

As chainsaw midget already noted, I believe he was mocking the fact that you wanted to be this a thread about his artistic talents, yet you were the first to break that rule with your indignation as soon the rest started to list great movies.

It's sad for you how self absorbed, self serving, insecure and paranoid you are.  What's funny is claws pointing out to you how you did exactly what you suggested no one do...     Nobody cares if you get the age of a victim wrong; more obfuscation.  Better to be ugly than wrong!  Turd.

I was trying to figure out what made hiM a"legend".

BTW when people act like they donct know what he did I had to educate them.

I guess his only ovie I ever saw was TFVK, which I was kinda meh on. I wonder if it inspired Anne rice tho.

So I guess he made some movies some peolle like. Ok. So to some he's a legend. Ok maybe he earned it.

I still don't get why Hollywood years to welcome him back while Kevin spacey is an absolute non person there now.
