Do you have friends? All my friends are dead!
I talk to my kids and Tiana.
I am grateful for you folks.
nope
No, but I have a wife who is social for me.
I dislike most people I encounter and find being in the company of others for extended periods exhausting. Really surprised me when I met someone I liked being around enough to marry.
I force myself to socialize like I force myself to exercise, because it's good for my health. I generally only socialize with my family and the woman I am dating. I prefer one on one meetings to groups.
I have close friends moreso than numerous friends, and I have my share of friendly acquaintances, but sure, I'm social and enjoy an interesting conversation with a stranger, even if I'll probably never meet that person again. There was a time when I was younger when it seemed like with two exceptions all my friends were male and everyone who disliked me was female but somewhere that faded away. All that said, my non-business, non-family social interaction these days centers on about four people, two of them related to each other.
To lay a truth bare, I used to have a job in which being social and adapting to another individual's personality and the unfolding situation was vital to the job's success, and let me tell you, being social is an acquirable skill.
When I started driving Uber I realized it's like boot camp for socialization. I've had more conversations in the last year then in the previous 43. most of themm pretty boring though. small talk
These days, I've become anti-social. I prefer small groups better, also, and avoid large parties.
I have lost several of my favorite people, but I am still blessed with many friends.
I enjoy being around people, and socializing both online and IRL.
I'm just a "people person." But there are very few that I let get really close to me.
Oh hells no!
Any place where there's a whole lot of people I want NO part of. Crowds, functions, events, etc. When overly talkative people try to carry on a conversation with me I try to discourage them from doing so with subtle hints. If they just don't get it I will walk away.
I am thankful for the internet so that I don't have to talk to people much. This gives me the opportunity to type out a thoughtful reply or message when I communicate.
I'm not a fan of Thanksgiving for the company I have to be around (even though they're not bad people in general) and the food I generally don't like.
I'm serious- all my friends and family died.

I had this one uncle who used to call me up for lunch...
he died about ten years ago...
I had pneumonia at the time, so I couldn't visit him in his last hours, & I was on this psych med that had my days & nights turned around, so I missed his funeral...
For some reason people like me more than I like them. Apparently I'm a social butterfly when I drink and can go into 5 different pubs in 5 different parts of the county here and meet at least 4-5 acquaintances and a bunch of new people who end up buying rounds for me. I don't know why, cause I'm an a***ole.
But I've several close friends. Most I've known almost 30 years.
My job requires me to be 'social' as I usually get most of all new temp workers to show them and explain their new job. I never do this in a strict professional/authoritative way, I always try to make this as humanly normal and pleasant as possible.
That said I have no problem socialising in general, but I prefer not to socialize too much, especially outside the job. Having many friends means maintaining a certain level of commitment and I don't always have time for that. Sounds selfish but that is the way I roll.
I never see anybody outside my family. I don't know how to act sometimes.
I say stupid crazy s**t, that only makes sense to me, to people I never met. Like in a grocery store, I'll be mumbling some stupid s**t, and the cashier will say "What?" And I'll say some dumb s**t. " Is there any gum here?" I won't even know what I was talking to myself about.
I don't want no f**king gum!

Don't you have a brother you don't care for (me too)? You have Tiana; she's your friend... and your sons. They're family. You still have more people who love you than 1 or 2 people I know.
recently decided to follow a friend's advice & give Toastmasters a try...
Just one meeting so far...

Even though I work with people every day of my life, I find sociability an effort although I lecture a lot and do outreach for our department and I enjoy it, it is a struggle.
My idea of a good time would be to get together with all of you and have a few days of bad movie watching, some good drinks and food: that would be great.
I'm more of a social disease . . .

^ You kill me man! :drink:
most of my social life is online, but i travel and see family& friends a couple of times a year. and i meet up with 2 old gentlemen at the local bar on thursdays for a couple of beers and whatever the week's discussion turns out to be. and i talk to people in grocery stores all the time.
Something I could have mentioned is for some reason people seem to want to talk to me and even confide in me. Same with my mother and some other female relatives of mine. Something in our DNA, I think.
A certain friend in Austin spent weeks telling me his life story, and when he was done he said, "You're dangerous."
I am not dangerous....
I am definitely not social and if it weren't for this forum I would have almost no interaction with humans outside of my family ( and consider how little my interaction here is). I have what I would call acquaintances at work, we know the gist of what's going on in each other's lives and care about each other, but as for actual conversation about things outside of work or common interests, there's almost nothing. Thankfully, the Golden Girls is gaining popularity among people again so I actually have a tv show I can talk about with them. I still like Murder She Wrote more and I predict that within the next 5-10 years there will be Jessica Fletcher t-shirts and socks at WalMart and Target too.

I would not expect anything less from a woman puking blood!
I usta be social at bars with my buddie's JD and Sam. They were real tall metal head guys. We went to bars a lot. That was in the 80's. I got arrested at a Megadeth concert.
Guys and gals, don't forget that if you feel like chatting to someone there was a Discord channel set up for us to talk on that AJ set up for us. If anyone needs the details for it, I'd suggest PM'ing him about how to get on it.
Maybe I shouldn't have been but I'm surprised so many of you described yourselves as non-social. I know that is not the same thing as introversion but I'm still surprised. That's cool though.
So indy and I are the only hob-knobbers in the bunch?
