I tried to see if there was already this topic, couldn't find one. I thought of it because one is on, an infliction MOVIE I LOATHE THAT EVERY BODY ELSE LOVES:
POLAR EXPRESS (2004) Ugh. It's on again. It's being watched again. Ugh.
The Wizard of Oz :hatred:
IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE

Blasphemy! Burn the Witch!
I'm kidding. I can understand why.
For me it's the ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.
I was dating a girl once, and she rented the movie, and I bit my lip trying to sit threw that. Meatloaf? :bluesad:
As far as POLAR EXPRESS goes, Tiana watches all that animated kid stuff- she loves it.
I don't even try to fake it. I go do something else. I would rather eat rat poison.

I understand too. I went through a long phase of hating
THE WIZARD OF OZ. I have come to appreciate it again, and love it more than I did as a kid. Not exactly what I'd call "endlessly watchable" it is close... it should be well known on this forum that
RCMerchant hates
ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. I like it, but understand anybody hating any film. I mean, I hate
THE SOUND OF MUSIC. :teddyr:

I think you're mentioned that before. I like that one too, but it has been over-shown for decades... being in the public domain.

I dig it.
POLAR EXPRESS was on, it looks great, I called it "kid stuff" and went to my computer.
There are some good ideas in that manipulative drively protracted nonsense; none are realized and visuals are all.
Ugh it is too many
TOM HANKS and though I like him, I aint a fan. So the "trick" DON'T WORK. Man I hate that movie. :hatred:

Ronny, a few years ago you asked for our favourite 1960s horror films and I put The Sound of Music on top of my list
My least favourite film was and is ET The Extraterrestrial: I found it blasphemous.
I'm a wee tad disappointed that How Murray Saved Christmas didn't catch on, even though I can understand why...
And now that we have rabbit ear stations dedicated exclusively to those good old classic baddies, I'm a little annoyed that http://www.badmovies.org/movies/santaclaus/ (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/santaclaus/) or http://www.badmovies.org/movies/santamars/ (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/santamars/) don't get any airplay, along with a few others on Andrew's list...
ROCKY.
And pretty much all boxing movies.
I don't think Polar Express is really a movie everyone loves.
It's pretty polarizing. Especially for its uncanny valley faces.

I always own hyperbole and wear it like a badge.
POLAR EXPRESS is popular enough to be broadcast multiple times at this time of year thru various outlets. It's huge. Like polar bear droppings.

never even heard of it.
for me it's probably HEAT... thought it was rubbish, but everyone seemed to fall over themselves in a rush to praise it

RAGING BULL or
THE HARDER THEY FALL (
BOGART's last movie).
you guys dont like Rocky?,,, oh boy,,, :bluesad: I always liked 2 and 3. and 4!!! :)

I've heard that if you liked Guardians of the Galaxy there was a good chance you didn't like GOTG Vol2, and visa versa. I believe that because while I liked the first one-i HATED GOTG Vol 2.
Al the characters felt flanderized
]http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Flanderization] (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Flanderization)
The movie was laughing way too hard at its own jokes.
And I call BS on that whole Yondu thing at the end, where in the last 5 minutes I'm supposed to care about a character whose been almost another antagonist through the series. I'm not buying it Disney.
i agree with all but the wizard of oz and GOTG2. LOVE them both!
miracle on 34th street is mine, HATE that movie!
I'm seconding Wizard of Oz, but I have a particularly personal reason for hating it:
My 5th grade class (circa 1981) performed "Wizard of Oz" as a stage play for the entire school, and yours truly was cast as the Cowardly Lion. (If you'd known 11 year old me you'd probably say, "Oh, that's perfect casting," but dammit, I auditioned for the Tin Man. They gave that to a kid who could barely speak English!)
Anyway, as part of the preparation for said play, we watched scenes from the movie over and over AND OVER AND OVER again....
When performance time came, words cannot describe the humiliation I suffered standing on stage in front of what seemed like the entire world, wearing a cheap lion costume with "whiskers" drawn on my face and a tail pinned to my ass.
As an added bonus, the girl who played "Dorothy," in addition to being a total b***ch who hated my guts, had not quite finished going through puberty yet, so she couldn't sing worth a spit. Hearing her squeak out "Over the Rainbow" dozens of times in rehearsals started out as unintentional comedy ("Sooooome...WHEEEEEEEERE... (crack) over the (squawk) RAIN-BOOOOOWWWW....") but eventually became sheer torture.
To this day if I hear that damn song I break out in hives.
I swore once that experience ended that I would have nothing to do with "Oz" ever again.

Here's the original thread, if anyone is interested in reading old opinions.

Got plenty of examples because I'm one of those annoying people that sees something extremely popular and has to hate it, but I'll just copy the one from there:

I know this is hardocre necro, but it's a nice thread to keep going, and I did wanted to say something about a movie I saw recently: The Big Lebowski.
It was nearly impossible for me to even trying to form a smile in my face while watching this crap. Awful, simply awful. The "jokes" were so unfunny and predictable that I almost cried (the car smashing scene, to give a quick example).
BTW, regarding
SUPER TROOPERS, my favorite comedy of all times: I've tried to show it to plenty of people to see if they like it, so far I havent' had any luck. I don't know a single person that actually enjoyed it. :twirl:
GOOD WILL HUNTING.

What? No love for 4?
Besides that there are no movies that I could think of that I loathed while others love them.
The closest thing would be ET I guess. I don't hate it, but I only saw it once or twice in my life and I don't have any emotional connection with this movie tbh.
A Christmas Story
The Butterfly Effect. This is a bad movie and not a good bad movie, or a good movie. It's just bad.

I'll also throw in Unbreakable (2000). Whatever gets people in a rage of praise for the film I don't get it. I thought it was boring as f**k and unintentional funny.

Agree. The weight lifting scene was particularly painful. I think I mentioned it in another thread.
- Lifts a weight, notices it's not that heavy.
- Gives a long look to another, heavier weight.
- He lifts it, notices it's not that heavy.

No problem with that and apartheid was a very evil system but I don't like films like that made by people who conveniently ignore the issues in their own countries and choose to focus on SA instead. If these films were made by SA filmmakers, then great.

Yeah, but on the flip side of that coin, our news media loves to shower Winnie Mandela with praise when she would have just as soon as put a necklace on them if their skin was the wrong color.

CADDYSHACK
Like, seriously. I watched it because all the praise it gets, and if it wasn't because it is labeled as such, I would've never guessed it's a comedy. Zero laughs from my part; in fact, I ended up kinda grumpy, especially because I watched PORKY'S before this one and it was a million times better.
Not to mention, the worst Bill Murray role ever. The first time I watch that guy and I don't laugh. Now that's an achievement.
