^I'd like to see FRAMED.  Looks cool.

THE KEY (1934)  I love WILLIAM POWELL and it's a Sinn Fein story, so I'm interested.  (It has COLIN CLIVE too.)

Any Ingmar Bergman movie. Seventh Seal is pretty tempting.
I've heard great things about him. There's an entire documentary about him with a LOT of grade-A directors in it called Trespassing Bergman.

Here's a list of directors that have gushed about his brilliance (Only directors I'm familiar with):

Woody Allen
Wes Anderson
Francis Ford Coppola
Wes Craven
Michael Haneke
Takeshi Kitano
John Landis
Ang Lee
Martin Scorsese
Ridley Scott

Lars von Trier was also there but it seems like he just made a fool of himself. For some reason he decided it was appropriate to blather about Bergman masturbating.

You'll love it. It's sad and funny. And very weird!
The best horror movie of the 1930's.

I seen VULGER- you ain't missing nothing.

AJ- I haven't seen any Bergman films either. I tried one once; Liv Ullman was in it. Ugh. I heard that LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT was inspired by Ingmar's WILD STRAWBERRIES!
I seen Lars Von Trier's the IDIOT'S, which is a weird movie...yeah... I can see why he likes the idea of jerking off. Most of his films are mental jerking off on his part. Not so much for me. I think he's a moron.

Of course I like TEENAGE ZOMBIES...so- what do I know?

I absolutely adored Antichrist and I've heard good thing about Trier's early works. But yeah, he is kinda dumb.
The "Okay, I'm a Nazi" incident at Cannes made that clear. I've also heard his newer movies like Nymphomaniac and The House The Jack Built were basically just Lars giving himself a blowjob.

In general I have mixed feelings on him. He can make brilliant films but his ego seems to be getting in the way a lot.

I never watched any of the classic Universal monster movies. In fact, the only Bela Lugosi movie that I've watched is BRIDE OF THE MONSTER, and it's the MST3K version. PHANTOM CREEPS was also present in the show so I did see that too.

I haven't fully watched PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, I actually had to turn it off after a while because I was bored out of my skull.

Outta these?  BLADE RUNNER is the only one you need to see.  Music by VANGELIS.  That is a favorite.

The BERGMAN film that inspired LAST HOUSE was THE VIRGIN SPRING, which is horrible and wonderful.  Both are rape/murder stories so I only watched either one just once.

WILD STRAWBERRIES
is also wonderful and eerie.  THE SEVENTH SEAL is challenging because of its reputation; it's in fact wonderfully lyric, another one of those "motionless" films that mesmerize me.

I'd replace THE RAVEN with THE BLACK CAT---the best Karloff + Lugosi film.   on BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, but might as well see FRANKENSTEIN first while you're at it.

Movies I need to see? Some really obscure/rare ones, like SON OF THE WHITE MARE or ANGEL'S EGG.
Some of the very oldest Surrealist movies.
BIRDEMIC, I guess.

By the way, BIRDEMIC is something that has to be seen to be believed. It's not just a movie, it's more like an incredible event that defies logic, like being abducted by aliens or talking to a ghost.

I haven't watched BIRDEMIC 2 but, as far as I know, it's more like tongue in cheek, because the director basically gained huge reputation because of how awful was his first movie, and then he made the second fully knowing this. The first one was more like a beatiful accident, I believe.

Add BIRDEMIC 2 to the list of of this thread, too.  :tongueout:

Yes, it's my favorite novel. I wrote about it in college and I know it extremely well. That's why I'm wary of the movie, even though I think Kubrick is the greatest director of all time and everyone says it's great.

I have not read LOLITA.  Without that prejudice, I have a high opinion of that strange film.  I believe there are differences from the novel.  Having read THE SHINING and immediately noticing differences between novel and film, nonetheless KUBRICK seems to do what is necessary to bring his sense of a work to the screen.

I NEED to see:

JONATHAN (1970) - It's a vampire movie. I have an "unofficial" DVD (that I bought from Video Search of Miami before they went out of business). The colors are nearly washed out (to the point that it basically looks like a black & white movie) and the picture quality isn't very good. I watched about 30 minutes of it and it's still sitting on my shelf. I'd love to see an official blu-ray release.

I was first introduced to this classic b-movie in 1982 on the old Elvira's Movie Macabre TV show. If you can withstand the godawful movie score, you are left with a surprisingly good movie that had a decent plot; a couple of law enforcement guys in the 1600s or something go to investigate a local village witchfinder general's actions concerning witch hunts and a corrupt governor...or something. What people really cared about when this movie was released was the horrifying torture scenes, which are gory and disturbing and still hold up today. If anything, it's worth it to watch a young Udo Kier early in his movie career.

I actually have never sat through the whole of  the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1925).
I just fall asleep. Not because it's BAD! It's just so quite!

Yog the Space Ameba
Atragon
Latitude Zero

I think those are the last big Toho movies I haven't seen.

Had a chance to buy Space ameba cheap  at G-Fest a few years ago, but didn't.  Benn kicking myself about it ever since.

The Amphibian Man.

Saw a faded print version on youtube a year ago.  Even then, it still was fun to watch. Now there is a brillant restored version there (with English subtitles) Looks cheesy at first glance, but grows on you.

"Nothing Lasts Forever"  written and directed by Tom Shiller.  He produced "Schillers Reels" for SNL when it was funny.

This is a shame MGM is still sitting on this one.  They claim it is due to unspecified "legal difficulties".  There is a bit of music in the score, but... most of them are in public domain or at least super cheap to get rights to.  I cannot think what "legal difficulties" there could be.  But.. DAMN this is a fantastic movie.

Schiller took a lot of stock footage and inter cut it with his film in a way that Ed Wood would have been jealous if he were alive to see it. The "modern"  footage (shot in 1984) is amazing.  The actors pull off a 1940s style acting that is so believable, you would swear it was actually shot in say 1946.  Zach Galligan (Gremlins) should have gotten an Oscar for this role...IF the film were actually released.  I could go on how amazing this film is..but.. watch it for yourself if you find a copy (not on youtube anymore, but there are sources that still host it online)

Sounds like this is a job for Vinegar Syndrome to save the day.

Would love to see some of the OOP Something Weird titles that I haven't been willing to pay big bucks for. Things like Please Don't Eat My Mother. Also, there is a Herschel Gordon Lewis box set I haven't watched some of the movies in. It's going for $265 on eBay now. I found it a while back for $150 and was seriously considering getting it, but I have way too much stuff already I still have to watch. If I find it for $150 again I still might pull the trigger.
