Bill Murray starring in a zombie movie? And Danny Glover and Steve Buscemi? Sounds like gold.
It just wasn't. The movie has zombie rising in a small backwoods town, a animals behaving oddly, and the earth off it's alignment causes odd changes in night and day.
Despite all this, the whole thing has a really sleepy laid back feel that could have worked in it's favor, but it never really feels like it embraces the stangeness like it should.
There's also a few moments where characters break the fourth wall that feel completely out of place with the rest of the movie. The last five or so minutes also feature a narrator that wasn't there for the entire rest of the thing.
Even in the big climatic zombie battle, everything just feels laid back like it's never really gotten going.
Yep. Great cast, ho-hum movie.
really? we loved it and plan to buy it . but then, we're big jarmusch fans.
Honestly thought it was one of the biggest wastes of talent I've ever watched, not to mention my time.
oh, y'all aren't alone in disliking it, most people did from what i've read.
I kinda liked it, but I agree that it is less than the sum of its parts. I mean, there are some great scenes and characters, but nothing much is done with them.
I thought Zombieland 2 was better. And it also has Bill Murray in it.
I like the cast/director but I'm not a fan of when they break the fourth wall. Those moments are usually super cringy and totally take me out of the movie.

The first time they broke the fourth wall, when they referred to the song being familiar because it was the theme song, I expected a follow up to the joke. A theme song to ... a show they watch or something. That would have almost been clever. instead the joke just hangs there.
