Title: Think this is a game that would interest a few people here.
Post by: Alex on February 15, 2020, 08:55:02 AM
This game seemed to replace Wingspan as the one all the board game groups I am in have been talking about recently. Anyway, Kristi decided to pick it up. I could see RC painting the monster figures in it.

I also have a card game where the players are in a competition to build the best B-movie.

Remember how easy, uncomplicated and fun Monopoly is?
We do board game nights and I might suggest this one, even though everyone's still "oof" about Dead of Winter. We tried to play three times but gave up frustrated as it is very time consuming.

I like the idea behind it, but I'm not quite sure how well it would work.

Plus I have nobody to play games with anyway.

I'm curious about this "B-movie" card game as well.  Care to give us a bit more detail there?

Dead of Winter is one we quite enjoy and gets played on a semi-regular basis. It does require us to re-read the rules and reference them a lot when we play it though, not a simple one by any means.

The card game is called Cannibal Pygmies in the Jungle of Doom.

QuoteThe second game in the B-Movie Series of card games. This game has a jungle adventure theme with homages to Tomb Raider, Indiana Jones, and cliches from various other adventure movies.

Throughout the game the players create a movie by playing characters, props, and locations. There are also creature cards that target other players' movies and Special FX cards that perform various actions such as modifying attacks or hindering other players. The goal of the game is to have the movie with the most points when the "Roll the Credits" card is played or when the draw deck runs out.

From the publisher:

"From the Producer and Director of Grave Robbers from Outer Space comes a New Low in B-Movies: Cannibal Pygmies in the Jungle of Doom. Swing into adventure as the Jungle Queen and Skippy the Wonder Dog. Come face to face with Dinosaurs, Nazis, and Dancing Haitian Voodoo Zombies! Will the Great White Hunter escape the clutches of the Native Chieftans' Daughter? Will he? WILL HE?!? 120 card stand-alone game for 2 - 6 players. 100% Compatible with Grave Robbers from Outer Space --- just shuffle them together! Easy to learn, fun to play. Running time: 20 to 40 minutes. This game is rated PG-13."

Imagine a crowd of 6-7 people eager to play a new game. It took us hours to set up and reading the rules, over and over. We even took turns reading the rules. We spent most of the time discussing, analyzing and arguing. When we tried to play the third time we realized we were still at zero with no clue whatsoever lol. Dead of Winter has become a running joke at our game nights, an expensive game we never got to play.

That's a shame, because if you can get through the rules most people see to really enjoy it. At least the groups we've ran it with have.

Just a random thought. If you want we could do a skype call or something sometime and we could talk you through how to play it.

I have all those card games.  Plus a story about them from Gen-Con.

I went to Z-man's (the publisher) booth at Gen-Con one year.  I asked about the games, because at that point I had purchased most if not all of them.  I asked the attendant if the company had anymore.  He told me that there was at least one one that was going to be released, but the company and the creator parted ways under bad terms.  Apparently the mechanics had been worked out and the art work was completed when it happened.

I asked if he knew the theme of the cancelled game.  He said it would revolve around "sex movies"  which I initially thought might mean porno's  but later thought he was talking about  a certain subset of comedy's  like Porky's,  Revenge of the Nerds, American Pie, Bachelor Party  etc.

He really made it sound like we were minutes away from getting it, but it got cancelled at the very last minute.

Had this one for over a decade but tonight is the first time it's been played. The idea is that you spend a certain amount of time squishing cities, and famous sites stateside and then the monsters have to battle it out amongst themselves for which one reigns supreme. You have the military doing their best to kill the monsters.

The only game I ever got into was RISK. Me and my brother-in- law Leroy played that game for days.
But he's in jail.
I love chess, too!

You never know. We've been talking about visiting some friends in Connecticut. Maybe we should meet up somewhere for a game.

Your always welcome in my home. But I live many miles from there. I'm in Michigan. That's about 900 miles.
My health is ok to travel- I just don't got the money to go nowhere. If you can make it to my house in Lawton- we have room!

We could always sign up for one of the various sites running it online and have a game.
