QuotePresident Donald Trump took aim at "Parasite's" historic Oscar wins at a Colorado rally on Thursday.
"How bad were the Academy Awards this year?" he asked, prompting jeers from the crowd. "Did you see it?"
"The winner is... a movie from South Korea! What the hell was that all about?" he went on. "We got enough problems with South Korea with trade. On top of that, they give them best movie of the year? Was it good? I don't know. Let's get 'Gone With the Wind.' Can we get 'Gone With the Wind' back, please?"
"So many great movies..." he bemoaned before again mocking, "the winner is from South Korea!"
"I thought it was best foreign film, right? Best foreign movie," he said. "Did this ever happen before?"
It hadn't, actually, happened before. "Parasite" made history when it became the first foreign-language film to win best picture at the Oscars, also taking home original screenplay, director for Bong Joon Ho and best international film.
He also took a shot at Brad Pitt, who used his speech for winning supporting actor to, in part, call out the Trump impeachment trial for blocking the testimony of former national security adviser John Bolton. Trump said he was "never a fan" of Pitt, addressing his Oscars speech.
"He got up and said little wiseguy statements," Trump said of Pitt. "He's a little wiseguy."
During the Oscars, Pitt joked, "They told me I only have 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week. I'm thinking maybe Quentin [Tarantino] does a movie about it — in the end, the adults do the right thing."
Neon, the distributor of "Parasite," took Trump's jabs in stride, tweeting that it was "understandable" that Trump couldn't comprehend the subtitled film. "He can't read," it said, including the hashtag #Bong2020.

Classy? What is classy?
To be fair, I'd expect trump to be confused by a Roadrunner cartoon.
QuoteWas it good? I don't know.
This sums it and most of his opinions up completely. He doesn't know anything about the subject but DAMN does he has a strong opinion about it.
I'm going to see it on Saturday so I guess I'll find out.
Trevor, are you or have you seen Gone with the Wind, POTUS' favorite film? His choice I think says much about POTUS.

For me it means, though it can mean other things to other people, is the perception that POTUS has little understanding of the history of the country of which he is Presidnt, and little understanding how this country treated black people over 150 years ago. It was not like it was in GWTW.
hmmm. my mothers favorite film is Gone with the Wind ...
but her all time hero is muhammad ali
So with that said just to be clear I'm asking a question
are you're saying that the president doesn't understand our US history?
and having Gone With the Wind as his favorite movie makes him a bad person?
am i right? is that what you mean???
i am confused... :bluesad:

i am confused... :bluesad:
Well, at this moment, you are not the only one that is confused, as I am probably even more confused than you are, as I thought I knew what I was talking about, when I posted this, but you have proved me wrong, as I really don't know what I was talking about.
... ???
Nobody's trying to prove anybody wrong lol
but come on... having a favorite film does not make you a bad person
am I right? :bluesad:

am I right? :bluesad:
Yes, you are correct, and I think that'll be my last thought on this subject, before I become even more confused than I already am.
oooh boy :bluesad:
Having a favourite movie doesn't. His personality however is another matter.
I agree.
And just a note everybody should know by now my stance is not "red or blue left or right"
I don't believe any of the politics stuff but I always see everybody attacking Trump and it makes me wonder why?
And let me be clear I'm not a fan of trump but what I'm saying is nobody makes a statement or a topic about how stupid the Democrats are this year and the crap they've spewing it's like almost a comedy sketch and nobody saying anything........... so what's the deal?
I mean I'm just really confused I try to stay out of the politics topics because of this but I've never see anything that's Pro right it's always left
am i right???
It's an open topic with Trump's name in there it's a discussion
I'm not trying to have an argument :bluesad:
I've been a Republican my whole life, came of age under Reagan, but Trump repulses and scares me at the same time.
It's not that he is ignorant, it's that he assumes he knows everything about everything and has no need to learn . . . about anything.
That kind of arrogance from a man who clearly has no idea what he is talking about on a variety of subjects is downright frightening.
He has no humility, no sense of history, and is so thin-skinned and insecure that he feels me must answer EVERY criticism with invective and ridicule.
It's unworthy of the Presidency - and IMO so is he.
Hmm. Just did a search for pro-trump and anti-democrat stuff. Seems to be plenty of it out there, although a lot of it is badly, badly written. While I have no great love for the English language I am not sure it deserves the mangling it is getting on some of those sites.
he should stop tweeting about dum sh!t...
alot of things right now make no sense. :bluesad:\
no Alex. I mean in here
I think I recall seeing some stuff about them posted in here recently. Maybe by Lil'Cerbious? Apologies if I've got the wrong poster.
I'm not as smart as you guys, I know you're both professional writers
If you give me a chance it won't be professionally written I'm afraid,
but I like to state my opinion on a few things...
fair?
Go ahead. I am quite happy to have discussions about politics, although when they devolve into arguments and name-calling I tend to just drop out of them. One thing to remember though is I am not in the US so I might not be able to comment on its domestic politics, only an international view of them. I'm not a professional writer by the way, I just write some stories for fun, not published or anything.
Oh and its somewhere north of 1 am here so I will be going to bed soonish. But I'll reply later.
Fire away! I love debate, and one thing I like about this place is it rarely turns mean - well, not now that a certain person is gone, anyway.
Arguably, posting stories, pictures, or articles on the internet counts as publishing them. (In the U.S.)
I think there was a court case a few years ago which used that logic, but I can't find it now. Good article: http://aigasf.org/communitylegalitieslegalities_22_does_posting_your_artwork_online_count_as_publication/ (http://aigasf.org/communitylegalitieslegalities_22_does_posting_your_artwork_online_count_as_publication/)
The court case involved a photographer who posted some pictures online. Someone copied them, & he sued. He'd registered them as unpublished works; the court thought that was improper since putting them online made them avaliable to the public, so he could only get statutory damages. (Going by memory.)
I define professional as "gets paid for it" so I view Indy for example as a professional writer since he is a published author, while I am merely amatuer.
well you do write great Alex,
I've read some of your posts...
I really did think you and Indy were professional writers
Well said Indiana Smith and I agree, discussion is healthy. Thumbup
I do enjoy everybody here so let's keep it clean...
Everything that is politics because voting is right around the corner and Im trying to learn...

example 1 - I think Trump should stop tweeting and making fun of people...
However the economy is good.
example 2 - does anybody find anything funny about the democratic debate that was a complete fail comedy show last week? I can. Lots of material there if you guys want to give it a try? - nobody saying anything? Why is that? This stumps me the most.
example 3 - or who do YOU want to see take the win 2021 Mayor Pete perhaps how about Elizabeth Warren ? any favorites? Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden??? any favorites at all???
Please. Before you type Trump is a fart in the wind lol... maybe anything else do you see that may be bad for our country? anybody running besides Trump that scares you???
I would suggest the economy isn't running as well as you might think. What looks like growth at the moment is heavily funded by increasing levels of debt that when the next economic crash happens is really going to sting. I certainly know amongst many of my extended family in the US, since trump came to power they have found themselves having to take on a second job to make ends meet. These, in general, are people who would have been considered middle class 10 or so years previously and now for the most part (although not exclusively) seems to be struggling to make ends meet.
I would suggest doing research on Keynesian Vs Classical economic models though, as a starter on how economies work (as well as a basic grounding in supply and demand). Neither are perfect models (or even IMHO good ones), but they are the ones western economies operate on. Trump very much leans towards a full-on Classical mode economy where employers get to do what they want as long as they make money. Check out Ford's old business practises if you don't get why that is a terrible idea with the whole cost of a recall Vs compensation for accidents thing they had going on.
I will try to give you ideas on places you can go to make up your own mind though, rather than try to persuade you to my way of thinking.
well thank you for explaining to me that the economy isn't running well... and I will research keynesian Vs Classical
Btw.
what country you from Alex?
Scotland, the country that hated trump before he got elected.
Awesome
Scotland Ireland Japan and Romania four places I would love to visit one day
I also want to visit Florida maybe Orlando Studios...
But I have to say if you want to continue?
I appreciate you putting all that effort into telling me my country's economy is not strong. I really do,
and yes, it was one of my examples
but
Do you have any thoughts on any of those questions I was asking?
Again I know my writing is crude
I'm sorry I'm not a professional writer or as good as you guys and I'm trying LOL
I guess not? Does this mean our conversation is over?
that's fine
I see where this is going anyway.
I think it is one to continue later. Kinda feeling very angry about something right now, which would interfere with any attempt to write unbiasedly.
I understand
Ok, so what questions was it you still needed answering?
Not for nothing, but they were clearly listed...
but it's okay - all good man, I think I know the answers now
moving along...
I'd rather talk about bad movies anyway
