That's proper football, not the American version.
QuoteIn a remarkable display of toughness, a Scottish football player has realigned her own dislocated knee before playing the remaining 40 minutes of the match.
St Mirren were playing Inverness Caledonian Thistle (ICT) in a Scottish Women's Championship Cup clash when the incident occurred.
St Mirren captain Jane O'Toole went down after a hefty challenge from an opponent, with fans quickly realising the hard-nosed defender had dislocated her right kneecap.
But rather than waiting for medical assistance, O'Toole immediately started hammering the knee to get things back into shape.
Most fans would have excused O'Toole for wanting to finish the match on the sidelines, especially considering the team was already six goals behind at the time.
But incredibly, she managed to play out the remainder of the match – a full 40 minutes more!
It's not the first time a player has taken the same approach to a dislocated kneecap. In the AFL, Sydney Swans midfielder Daryn Cresswell was involved in a gruesome moment in 1997 when his kneecap ended in the wrong spot after a tackle. Like O'Toole he immediately knocked it into the right place – although he didn't finish the match.
The 244-game Swans player did manage to play the following week, however.
