Title: SATAN!
Post by: RCMerchant on March 06, 2020, 02:41:39 AM
Exorcist rip-offs and cheezy Satan movies!
Of course you can include GOOD Satan movies!

I really like BEYOND THE DOOR (1974) with Juliet Mills! It scared the tar out of me! I saw it at the Strand double billed with some Elizabeth Taylor thriller movie- NIGHT WATCH (1973)!

This isn't cheesy nor a ripoff, but I felt it needed to be mentioned because it's awesome. It's a spanish movie called EL DIA DE LA BESTIA, also known as DAY OF THE BEAST.

Bent on committing as many sins as possible to avert the birth of the beast, a Catholic priest teams up with a Black Metal aficionado and an Italian connoisseur of the occult. Now, he must become an unrelenting sinner. Is there still hope?

The characters are totally bonkers, it has hilarious scenes, great special effects, and the suspense is unbearable. Watch it ASAP.

I've wanted to see that based on its reputation, but it has never been released in America.

If you have the chance of getting it, do it because it's an amazing movie. The atmosphere is hard to explain: dark, scary, as if you know there's something bad about to happen, but without being obvious. There's sceptic characters so the movie actually have to convice them, and of course you, of the dire incoming events. Simply wonderful.

On a side note, the guy playing the black metal fan is Santiago Segura, the same actor and director from TORRENTE, a really bizarre cop comedy that is well known among hispanic speakers, and a total classic among my group of friends.

I like Álex de la Iglesia's other movies. DAY OF THE BEAST seems to be one of the most popular with Spanish speakers, but it never made it here for some reason.

I've never seen it, but it looks like eBay has multiple copies available for under $10 including shipping.

BEYOND THE DOOR is one of my late-night viewing favorites!

Here are a few others I like:

* THE ANTICHRIST (1974)

* THE HOUSE OF EXORCISM (1975) - actually, this is the movie LISA AND THE DEVIL with new Exorcism scenes added (Robert Alda is the priest).

* DEMON WITCH CHILD (1975) - I have it on DVD under the alternate title THE POSSESSED

There's a lot of Satan in this topic.  I'm not sure you need this much Satan.

I think you're better off with just a Touch of Satan.

Let's not forget Carpenter's PRINCE OF DARKNESS. I'm still haunted by that artificial dream and the ending.

I am reminded of a movie that my husband rented and I just blindly trusted that he knew enough about it to think I would be OK with watching it.  This movie was called "Black Candles" from 1982 and was marriage-changing.  Never again have I watched a movie with him without doing my own research first.  Had I just looked it up I would have seen that it also goes by the name "Los ritos sexuales del diablo"  in which I understand enough to think perhaps this isn't something that won't scar me for life...  I'm pretty sure I covered my eyes for most of the movie and I've blocked out a lot that happened in it but I am pretty sure there's goat bestiality going on like for the entire movie.

From the trivia: Reportedly, director José Ramón Larraz disowned this film following its release.

How about the Al Adamson biker classic, Satan's Sadists?

There's not a whole lot of Satan in it. But it has a killer intro song and plenty of young bikers sticking it to the man!

There's an old Calvin and Hobbes cartoon in which Calvin asks his tiger:

"Do you believe in the devil?  You know, a supremely evil being dedicated to the temptation, corruption, and destruction of all mankind?"

Hobbes replies: "I'm not sure mankind needs the help."

Good point there.
