Title: Masters of the Universe
Post by: Nemo2342 on June 05, 2002, 04:21:01 AM
I was shopping at the local Wal*Mart *shudders* today, when I saw something interesting in the bargain bin: Masters of the Universe, and on DVD no less! Does this mean that He-Man is making a comeback, or is it just another sign of the coming apocalypse?

Probably it means there are coming bad, bad years for movie lovers, if with all that classic movies that still have to appear on DVD the studio decided to release MOTU. About the film itself, it is really cheesy, so if you haven't seen it and you are into this stuff (why else would you post messages here?), hell, why not.

Personally, I have one particular problem with one of the flaws (among all of them) of the film: Why the hell did they pay a lot of money (I pressume) to make Moebious design some of the settings, only to use such a dark cinematography that they are almost invisible?

The bargain bin at our local Wal-Mart was loaded with about $10 billion copies of the FREEJACK dvd! Also, I found 1 or 2 STROKER ACE dvds and a couple VHS copies of SURF NINJAS! I did however buy a copy of the INVASION USA dvd. I only wish I could have found a MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE dvd. Lucky you.

By the way, a new line of He-Man figures as well as a new cartoon series is set to come out sometime this summer/early fall. Check out www.he-man.org for pics and details.

1) Yes, of course I bought it :D How could I pass up such an opportunity? I plan on watching it this afternoon.

2) Amazon.com is selling the DVD for $17.98, though it does mention that some of their ZShops have it for $14.98

3) Thanks for the link to he-man.org, now I won't be getting anything (other than watching MOTUS that is) done today ;)

As a kid I had three main TV and action figure heros: He-Man, Ninja Turtles and Transformers. He-Man was the epitome of '80s action shows and I loved it. The movie is good in a bad way. Said it, I'll say it again: you can't go wrong with Billy Bartie!

No end times melodrama.  It's just that MGM/UA owns the rights to the now defunct Cannon Group Inc's ENTIRE library, so look for tons of 80S era Golan/Globus produced dreck to hit DVD.  I have to get some money, no way am I passing on the chance of a Missing in Action box set or Firewalker!!!  Just think of all the cheese!!!

Do Andrew and I get mentioned specifically on the commentary as p**sant critics who didn't recognize Goddard's innate genius?

Careful, Chadzilla, that figuritive cheese can block up yo' mind like a block of velveeta can clog a colon. Then you'll need a healthy dose of HK butt kicken' to loosen up the 'ol mental sluce gates. I'd recomend a dose of Dr. Chan's Drunken Master or Dr. Hung's Botteled Bruhaha, just the thing for those stuck synapsys.

Actually it isn't too bad. True it's predicatble, but it's the sort of film you can switch your brain off for and enjoy. But then again, I'm a big He-Man fan, that may explain it. (I HAVE THE POWER!!!!)
