Title: A Taste of Blood (1967) - A Two Hour Herschell Gordon Lewis Movie?
Post by: dcj2112 on July 13, 2020, 10:02:26 PM
About to pop this one in from my HGL box set. From what I've heard it was his attempt to make a more cookie cutter horror movie. Something with more mainstream appeal but without the budget or star power to make it work. From what I've heard I got the impression Lewis wasn't too happy with it nor were a lot of HGL enthusiasts. Something Weird usually packed their DVDs with extras but outside of Lewis' commentary this one is nearly bare bones! Only about 10 minutes of other extras.

Subconsciously I think I've been avoiding it. But I am curious. I'll pop back in when I'm done

I've seen BLOOD FEAST, 2000 MANIACS, the GORE GORE GIRLS, the WIZARD OF GORE, and MOONSHINE MOUNTAIN- and the only one worth a 2nd watch was 2000 MANIACS. I find most of his stuff just plain boring.

If you like 2000 Maniacs you might enjoy the last installment of the Blood Trilogy, Color Me Blood Red. The story is derivative, but it's easy to follow, full of  '60's camp fun, and bloody!

After this one I have The Wizard of Gore and The Gore Gore Girls left to watch in my box set. I'll have to track down Moonshine Mountain at some point. I thinks it's part of that HUGE 17 disc Arrow Blu-ray release of HGL's films. However that set is becoming a bit of a white whale for me. Hopefully some more copies pop up around Christmas time from third party sellers.

I love the garish poster, though!
