In Australia, companies are scrambling to rebrand products in the wake of the wokeness protests.
We have decades-old sweets called Red Skins. They are a pink chewable strip confectionary. So rather than be racist towards American Indians (or risk the wrath of the PC warriors with nothing better to do) they will rebrand that lolly to something else.
We also have a brand of cheese called Coon. It's been an Australian mainstay for many, many years, and is named after the American founder, whose name was Coon. He even had a cheese making process named after him, called Cooning. But now the parent company has decided to take the opportunity to rebrand it as god knows what, because the word 'coon' has been used to refer to black people.
Oh yeah, we have a delicious ice cream called the Eskimo Pie. It's a block of vanilla ice cream covered in chocolate. Used to eat them regularlyl as a kid. Well, they're going to rename that, too. I guess major companies would rather appear woke and relevant than risk upsetting a bunch of uninformed imbeciles.
This isn't the first time PC rebranding has taken place. Earlier examples are somehwat more understandable, including the rebranding of Darkie toothpaste (complete with the picture of a black man with shining white teeth) as Darlie toothpaste. Also, the rebranding of FAGS (a sugary stick that used to look like a cigarette, and was sold in packs that looked like cig packs) as FADS (removing the images of children smoking!). Yeah, I understand those. But WTF people, let's rebrand a historic product that was named after the founder because the name has been turned into a racist slang word decades later.
Next thing, you'll be seeing a ban on calling something 'French toast' because we can no longer use ethnic designations to refer to foods. Or anything. Oh wait, the French aren't a historically oppressed minority in Western countries, so it's all good for that breakfast food.
Here in Germany a popular Chocolate-coated marshmallow treat is now called Schokokuss (Chocolate Kiss).

It used to be called Mohrenkopf (Moor's head) and Negerkuss (Negro's Kiss). They did change names twenty years ago, long before the "woke" movement.
The Black and white cookies

are known as "Amerikaner" (Americans) here in Germany. Seems like no one took offense yet.

Sarotti is a German chocolate brand owned by Stollwerck GmbH since 1998.
The Sarotti-Moor (Mohr) was created in 1918 for the 50 year anniversary of the company. In 1929 Nestlé became the majority stockholder in the company. This traditional German brand is only known in its home market. In 1998 Nestlé sold Sarotti to Stollwerck Chocolates, which itself became part of the Belgian Sweet Products/Baronie in 2011. In an attempt to stave off accusations of racism, the tray-carrying blackamoor had been changed into a "mage" of golden skin colour in 2004.
There's been a joke going around on face book, that instead of renaming the Red Skins football team, we just replace the Native American with a red skinned potato....
How long before they go after the potato...
They're already going after the term "Master" Bedroom because it has the word "Master" in it.
this is why I don't treat this "historical moment" we're in at all seriously

Washington went that route with Dan Snyder, one of the evilest owners in sports.
As a side, going after the word Master is a way to not fix things even though those who say it is aren't helping the case.

The only place I heard that was here. Sounds like nonsense.
And why would anyone give a f**k if they renamed some f**king candy? Who f**king cares? Will it taste better with the old name? If they named Jujy Fruits Hard Sticky s**t, I would still eat it!
So if they rename a f**king candy- why is that a big deal to you? Or a football team? Why would you care?
Tradition? f**k all that.
why would you care if they kept the name the same? it's a bunch of stupid crap thought up by bored people in their covid quarantine
There's a country singer called Lady Antebellum ... or rather there was. She's simply Lady A now. People were upset because Antebellum referred to the history of the south.

Haven't heard from them since they ticked off Bush supporters, like, a thousand years ago, but they're "Chicks" now.....

I heard they are supposedly suing someone else who has been using the name Lady A for years, for the right to use the name exclusively.

QuoteThe term can imply that there is a master who oversees the household, typically a male, and from a historical perspective, as a master of slaves. This can potentially have gender and racial implications where there is a perceived exclusion of females or minorities. The term has slowly been falling to the wayside, but there has been a lot of political activity of late that would support shifting the term master bedroom to something more politically correct.

Never heard of that one in relation to that device, but I have heard it for the Tsar Bomba.

Huh?
"Sometime during the Persian period Moab disappears from the extant historical record. Its territory was subsequently overrun by waves of tribes from northern Arabia, including the Kedarites and (later) the Nabataeans."
Before my time.

I absolutely love how one of their alternative suggestions is OWNER'S BEDROOM, as if that couldn't possibly have any connotations with...erm...I dunno.. . slave owners?
all these people who seem hellbent on waging some PC war invariably end up shooting themselves in the foot like that.

I think eventually we won't have words, or signs, or even facial expressions (well at the moment our faces are covered anyway)... all that we'll have is a little implant with a binary receptor that switches from 0 to 1 whenever we're in a 5 metre radius of another person, and then back to 0 when they move away. that will be the full extent of human interaction. everyone happy.

Alright. From now on, nobody is allowed to own anything!
... wait. No. That sounds like either a hippie thing of a communist thing, and I'm pretty sure both of those are offensive for some reason or another.
i get called hippie as an insult all the time. my recent favorite though, is the guy who called me a wannabe beatnik, lol!

They wouldn't dare change the name of Smokey The Bear, would they?
I mean, he's supposed to be discouraging children from smoking, but some idiot out there might come out & say his name is encouraging children to smoke......
And the woke crowd...
Just imagine the hate fest when somebody starts screaming & crying about how his hat makes him look like a state trooper or a county deputy!!!!!!!!

Being part Eskimo myself, I'm very offended that they are doing away with the name of this tasty snack for my sake. I grew up with this ice cream and I enjoyed the identity thing; like some of my friends and I used to call it "our pies" or something like that. :teddyr:
I wish they'd bring back the Washington Redskins name too. That name seemed to only offend white people; all the 'Skins that I ever knew loved the name. But oh well.

Textbook example of people being outraged on behalf of someone else.
If I were to say something horribly offensive about Eskimos right now there's at most a 0.01% chance one of them would read it.
