Title: Randonautica
Post by: ER on August 25, 2020, 04:50:49 PM
I been messing around with it during my time off. Anyone have experiences of your own to share?

Just be careful.

What the f**k is it?  I clicked on the link. Is it a video game or something?

Wellll, on the surface it is, I think, an app that generates random coordinates near a user, and lets that person go to the coordinates with an expressed intention in mind. I think it's strongly dependent on the power of suggestion but like a lot of other things in life, it does seem to result in what can seem like some odd coincidences of the Jungian/synchronicity variety. People using this app have found everything from dead bodies to lost friends, to stray dogs to odd symbols in the woods, to money to....?

Half the time I've done it I've not had anything come of it that I can say was related or even relevant, but my daughter did it with me for the first time after asking for "something nice to happen to me" and was led right to a little wooden book exchange at a school, and she put two books in she'd been planning to give to a library, and found two books there that were on her reading list.

I don't have a cell phone, so I don't have apps. Sounds...I dunno. Do you have to pay for this? I can kinda discover books the old fashion way. I go in blind and I read them.

It's for sure not for you, Ronny. You don't have a phone, a car, can't walk far anymore so you'd be completely excluded from participating, but there are more important things to do than lose time in an ersatz post-neo internet age vision quest.

^ That sounds f**king moronic with no goal or purpose.
Love your fancy words, by the way.

Oh, I don't know, getting out in the fresh air, taking a walk, heading toward a mystery in the company of family or friends doesn't sound so moronic to me, but then I don't get the appeal of staying high all the time, so maybe I'm just closed-minded.

Oh, and thanks for the compliment on my "fancy words." We Irish are God's gift to eloquent if wordy communication.

I thought I did a randonautica thread but after checking I guess I did not. Anyway, I downloaded the app in June. My intention for my first try was "money" and the app took me to a place about three miles away, right to the doorstep of one of the richest families of our town. My sister who went along thought randonautica was being sarcastic.

On my second try I visualized "something creepy" and was surprised the app directed me to a spot only 1 mile away. It was a walkway behind a supermarket next to our town's river. That place is a favorite for people walking dogs. There are also a few benches along the way. Didn't find anything at the exact spot, but about 7 feet to the left I found a pair of new child slippers in the gras. It was momentarily creepy but not really that unusual since families walk there all the time as well.

Didn't feel like doing more randonauting because of the heat but we are planning a few in autumn. I doubt we will do "evil" or anything sinister  :buggedout:

If I had to walk to go find a book, using my telephone., I would be in deep s**t. The nearest book store is in Kalamazoo, which is 20 miles from here. What the f**k? Is this like the Pokeman Go s**t?

People keep telling me this whole "wish manifestation via mind-reading technology" thing sounds evil, because it can lead to encounters with negative entities. I keep thinking that would make for a pretty sweet deal for a Lifetime movie.

or you find a book 700 feet away somewhere unexpected. That's the whole fun of randonauting, you'll never know where it takes you  :teddyr:

I find books 2 feet from me. It's called a bookshelf in my bed room.
I'm one of those weird people who actually has been reading and collecting books for decades.
And I don't need a phone app to explore outside. Christ! Are people so lame they need a phone app to figure s**t out? Just drop your phone for a minute and check out the real world!

You should try going on a quest sometime, Ron. Might change your outlook on life in a positive way.

Buy staring at my phone? I can discover s**t without an app to tell me where to go.

You're more curmudgeonly than usual, Ronny. Everything OK?

Yeah. I'm fine. I get in moods where I'm disillusioned by the state of the world.  :bluesad:
I don't express it at home, Tiana has way to much on her plate working at the nursing home in the middle of a pandemic. So I vent here. I'm sorry if I unload too much onto you fine folks.  :bluesad:
Truth is, I can't walk too far. I get short of breath just walking to the mailbox sometimes.

Yes, it's a messed up world, no denying. Venting among old friends sometimes isn't a bad thing. Hang in there. (And vitamin E could maybe help you.)

I keep wanting to go on a Randonautica hunt but my husband keeps pooh-poohing it!  He doesn't get it either.  Though, in his defense, it has tried to get us to go into places like a corn field or a church parking.  I'm going to try to trick him into doing it this weekend.
