Title: A CD EXPLODED in my computer!
Post by: AoTFan on September 09, 2020, 09:31:51 PM
So I was trying to burn a music CD.  I had all the tracks picked out, everything ready to go, when I told my software program to burn it.  First it said it couldn't burn the CD I had put in (although, in retrospect I think that CD was actually a DVD-R).  So, I put in an older (but presumably blank, Memorex Black CD-R.  The machine did some whirling and then suddenly, I heard this loud WHIRRRRRR and cracking sound.  The CD had freaking EXPLODED in the drive.   Did some research and found this can happen when the CD is damaged or something, but dunno...

Now what sucks is that I think my DVD-ROM drive is broke, it diesn't do ANYTHING when I put a DVD or CD in.  When I try to access it through the computer, it tells me to "insert a CD".

(sigh)

And, yes, I'm still using CDs... my car radio doesn't work with mp3s or plug ins.

Sorry to hear about your DVD drive.

Kind of going full circle with the audio on the cars.  My first car just had an AM radio.  Next three vehicles had a cassette tape player.  My next three vehicles had CD players.

My Volt was able to connect to my phone with a USB cable.  It also had a DVD/CD player that was capable of playing movies as long as the car was in park.  I never used it to watch movies and only used the CD player a handful of times.  One thing the car did have was a hard drive where you could copy music from CDs over to the hard drive.

My Bolt just has the USB connector but can also do bluetooth.  I wonder how much longer it'll be under they eliminate the USB connector and want everyone to just use bluetooth.

I still rock CDs in the car daily. My CD mixes are personalized; an mp3 playlist is just not the same as something that you've built with your own time and effort, even if they are just songs that I lifted off of YouTube because I'm too lazy to dig my old CD collection out of the old travel chest in the storage closet.  :teddyr:

Who'd of thought that anyone would say "I'm still using CDs..." in my lifetime?  Hell, I just sold my windup Victrola last week!

Sorry to hear your troubles.  That's a drag.
