Over the past few months I've watched about eight of his movies and have probably seen twenty-five or so others in the past, and I've concluded that about a quarter of his movies are good, a quarter are okay, a quarter bad, an eighth of them terrible, and an eighth brilliant. That's not too poor of a record considering his overall output.
I think that's a reasonable assertion. CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS is wonderful. HANNAH AND HER SISTERS is wonderful. BROADWAY DANNY ROSE is a lot of fun. THE PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO is also very good. I can't claim to love any of his other movies.
maybe the best ever, despite his personal life horrible decisions
