Title: RIP Captain Sir Tom Moore.
Post by: Alex on February 02, 2021, 12:57:56 PM
Not anyone from the world of movies, but a World War 2 veteran, who last year decided to raise money for the NHS by completing 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday. If I recall the story correctly, he had expected to raise a few thousand pounds but instead managed several million as his story caught the public's imagination. He was knighted for this. After this he went on to found a charity to combat loneliness in old people during lockdown.

He was taken into hospital yesterday with Covid-19 and it was announced he'd passed away today. In the last year of his life he achieved more than most people manage in a lifetime, not to mention his wartime service which I believe included fighting in North Africa against the Germans and in the Far East against the Japanese. I am on my phone just now, but when I get to my computer, I'll post up the press release for anyone who is interested.

He sounds like a worthy gentleman who lived a well-invested life.
