The problem with me is seeing more of Spielberg. Too sappy . ET? What possible reason do I want't to watch his kid movies?

I remember being really angry when I found out that ET was supposed to be Jesus: that's why I walked out.

What the hell?  That's rot.  I mean, Trevor, seriously?   Watch THE PRINCESS BRIDE.  That can't offend.

Spielberg said ET wasn't supposed to be Jesus; Spielberg is from a Jewish family, & making a movie about Jesus would've offended his mom.

The basic "people help alien escape from government scientists" plot was already common; Disney released one in 1978, The Cat from Outer Space; the British Children's Film Foundation made 2-4 similar movies before them.

I studied a book called the 'Cone Gatherers' in higher english at school. All the study materials said the author was making comparisons to Jesus with this and that. Many years later I met the author and we were speaking about this. When I told him about the brother being Jesus, he was taken aback and basically said 'WTF?'.

Just because other people have said that it is supposed to be about Jesus doesn't mean that it is Trevor. Its an easy comparison for critics to make and quite a lazy one, but that doesn't make it accurate.

After writing Lord of the Rings, Tolkien had to spend a lot of time saying that the novel was not his version of World War 2. Despite this, and him pointing out how his story would be different if it had been, to this day some people still claim it is.

I can't say if they made it with the intention of having ET be a messianic figure or not. It isn't something I'd ever heard before but I'd be fairly sceptical about the comparison. There are a lot of differences. Unless it is something the director or script writer or someone else involved deeply in the creative process has said, I'd take such claims with a pinch of salt.

Thanks; and don't forget THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL as far as the benevolent alien trope that is helpful and helped and does not die like us normal mortals.

Easy deductions here.
1. ET comes to Earth from the heavens.
2. When he gets here, no one knows who he is.
3. His earth mother's name is Mary.
4. He has one true disciple: Elliot.
5. He performs miracles (of a kind)
6. He is persecuted, dies and is resurrected.
7. He then ascends into the sky.

"Easy deductions"?  Maybe an "easy" stretch.   "...No one knows who he is..."?  What?  Jesus' presence on Earth was a revelation perhaps but not a mystery.
"He has one true disciple?"  Huh?  That sounds good to you?  Jesus had 12.  Your comments sound like the stuff one reads on conspiracy websites... and I won't even point out to you what is also an "easy deduction".  I mean: JEEPERS CREEPERS WHAT ROT.
