...And some people think that's in poor taste.

Honestly, I hate the "Netflix killed Blockbuster" storyline; it simplifies things way too much.

Blockbuster did have a chance to buy Netflix early on, but why would they? Blockbuster was already working on it's own streaming service, & Netflix didn't offer streaming at the time; they were a DVDs-by-mail company. Blockbuster tried a time-limit-free rental service, to compete with Netflix after Netflix's mail-order rental service took off, but it was too hard to fit the two revenue models together.
