Title: Horror Franchises of the 2000s (to present day)
Post by: zombie no.one on March 21, 2021, 09:56:47 AM
claws's latest poll got me wondering about how many horror movies with at least one sequel there have been since 2000

the FINAL DESTINATION series is far and away my favourite post 2000 horror series that I'm aware of (not that I think any of them are much more than a 7/10).

I never got into the SAW movies. I get the angle they were going for but I find them tedious

I saw the first HATCHET movie and was disappointed, haven't checked the sequels

I saw the first WRONG TURN and thought it was just okay... apparently the sequels get increasingly crazy but I haven't seen them

HAPPY DEATH DAY was very dumb but enjoyable enough. I'm sure I'll see HAPPY DEATH DAY 2 U at some point

what other horror franchises with at least one sequel since the 2000s are there? (for the sake of argument lets say the first installment must also be from the year 2000 or after)

edit: the list so far:

FINAL DESTINATION
SAW
HATCHET
WRONG TURN
HAPPY DEATH DAY
HUMAN CENTIPEDE
THE CONJURING / ANNABELLE
PARANORMAL ACTIVITY
THE DESCENT
SHARKNADO
THE RING
FEAST
RESIDENT EVIL
SINISTER
VHS
INSIDIOUS
CLOVERFIELD
DEAD SNOW
1,000 Corpses/Devils' Rejects/3 from Hell

the CONJURING, I guess.

Not seen those but I've seen 2 of the ANNABELLE spin offs.. they were ok

just remembered the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY series. that first one seemed really original at the time. remember actually being somewhat scared!

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 was insanely dull... how they dragged any more sequels out of that I don't know but I think there's maybe a part 5 now?

I liked the first Saw.  I never watched any of the others.

Hatchet is good in that old fashioned 80s slasher kind of way.

The first Happt Death Day was decent, but really could have used a Rated-R cut.  The second one just seemed like it forgot what kind of movie it even wanted to be.

I never watched any of the Wrong Turns or Paranormal Experiences.

The first The Descent was wonderfully nasty.  I haven't seen the sequel.

Let's also not forget the Sharknado movies.

I still haven't seen any of the SHARKNADO movies... are they horrors? I thought they were comedies!

that's what I heard and is why I watched it... I didn't get that vibe from it though. It seemed over-the-top silly.

Feast.  That's a good one.  There's absolutely no way you can predict what's coming next.

I also really liked how in the first movie they gave predictions of everyone's life expectancy and listed Jason Mewes as already having surpassed all expectations.

Also, would we count Resident Evil?  It's a horror film series, but it's an adaption of an older game series.

There's also the House of 1,000 Corpses/Devils' Rejects/3 from Hell which I don't think actually has a series name.

On the flipside there's Cloverfield which has a series name but really isn't connected.

not seen any of the above... if you think they count I'll take your word for it!

Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN reboots would not count though

yeah I used to see them in the dvd horror racks in HMV fairly cheap and was never tempted to go for it, even when I was in the mood for a random blind buy...
