Names like "Gypsy Moth" & "Texas citrus mite" are culturaly insensitive, so they're asking the public for new names.
"Gypsy" is considered a slur by many (most?) Romani people.
I have no idea what the problem is with "Texas citrus mite." Many people outside Texas consider "Texan" to be an insult, but most people inside the state are happy with it. :tongueout:
I don't think the word "Texas" or "citrus" is the problem- I think it's "mite".
Who you calling a mite, motherf**ker? :hatred:

I don't think going to the public is a good idea for some scientific dealings. We don't want to end up with another Boaty McBoatFace scenario
