This sounds like it will be amazing. It will be released in the United States on April 22, 2022.
From Wikipedia here is the premise:
QuoteActor Nicolas Cage begrudgingly accepts a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a billionaire super fan. When things take a wild turn, Nic is forced to become a version of some of his most iconic and beloved characters in order to extricate his wife and daughter from the fan who is a notorious drug lord.
Oh yes, I will be buying this on bluray or dvd.
I like Cage quite a bit!

That trailer is awesome  :teddyr: :teddyr:
And with BlackPink in the area!
Definitely going to see this
This looks so meta, it's amazing. There's a video or two on YouTube about how Nicolas Cage memes wrecked his career, taking him away from major blockbuster movies and into semi-indie trash. This movie looks like it takes the Nic Cage meme fodder and uses it to fuel itself, and with any luck, it will get him out of the half baked movies he's unfortunately been corralled into. I like this a LOT. Looking forward to seeing it.
Just remember, Bruce Campbell got there first. :bouncegiggle:

Meta. What does that mean?
Is this some internet slang I don't know about?
I know it's the name of Facebook now (yeh, right ), but other then that- in the context you used it- it makes no sense.
It is easier to give you a for instance on Meta than a meaning. For example, if you take a picture with a phone, it has metadata that can be used to identify when and where it was taken. In D&D if a player uses some information the player would know, but his character doesn't, that is called metagaming. Deadpool breaking the 4th wall would be considered Meta I guess.
^ Ok! I still have no clue what it means! :bouncegiggle:
It does look like a fun movie. I have always been a big fan of Nicholas Cage!
I'll go out on a limb and say this gets an Oscar nomination for best original screen play next year
this looks amazing

"Meta" technically means something that comes before or is outside or beyond of the thing it modifies. So "meta-physics" is what comes before physics or makes up the basics of physics or is beyond the notion of physics.
When people talk about meta in the arts, particularly literature, they are talking about metafiction, fiction that acknowledges it's a work of art and tries to play with that reality in a clever way. The classic example of a metamovie would be a movie in which the characters didn't know they were in a movie, but we could see senses of the screenwriter making decisions for them.
So this movie is "meta" because it acknowledges the reality of Cage's career and persona outside of the movie, but not within the movie's reality.
People also use "meta" loosely and imprecisely to describe something that's experimental or self-referential, like people loosely and imprecisely use "surreal" to describe something strange or weird.
I suspect I'll see the movie, don't know if I'll review it or not. Doesn't seem meta enough to me.
I really like this poster for the movie.

I've got that movie. It's a lot of fun. Bruce and Nic would make for a good team in a movie.
I just watched it, with a broad grin on my face all the time. Silly, but fun.
It's a lot of fun. I think the ending is meant to be a nod to ADAPTATION, but that interpretation leaves a lot of unanswered questions.

Almost any aspect of the movie raises a lot of unanswered questions once you start thinking about it.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it seemed to me that Nick Cage was having fun the whole time.
I appreciate seeing such generally positive response to this film, which I watched a couple weeks ago and enjoyed a good deal. I got excited by the trailer in the beginning of the year and have been baffled recently about how the film seems to have entirely disappeared from the public consciousness. Apparently it didn't even break even.
I'm not exactly surprised that Cage only has a $30 million theatrical box office in him at this point, particularly during these fraught times for theaters, but what I don't get is how I haven't seen nor heard anyone discussing UWOMT in the past 8+ months - this thread notwithstanding. Cage still has a sizeable enough cult following which has kept MANDY, PIG, and even MOM AND DAD alive in online conversation, but this, possibly the most Cagey of all Cage movies, just seems to have quickly faded into the ether. Any ideas about why it failed to make more of an impression on what I presume was its target audience.......?
The title reminds me of Kundera's Unbearable Lightness of Being. There was a film version of that, too.

I saw that in a 300-level Film and Philosophy course, and it was a peculiar feeling watching some of those scenes at a desk, in a classroom. :bouncegiggle:
I haven't seen the movie, but I think the first part of the novel refers to Nietzche's eternal recurrence of the same.
For what it's worth, I liked UNBEARABLE WEIGHT more than Kaufman's UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS.
Andy Kaufman? Naishe.

I attiribute the box office disappointment on the pandemic because people have stopped going to the movies as much since it started for health ans safety reasons. That's why I waited to get it on bluray.
It is a film I really, really wanted to see, but to be honest the thought of going to the cinema to see it never even crossed my mind. I was waiting to get to see it at home.
