Title: Will Smith Slaps Chris Rock In The Face On Oscars Stage
Post by: chainsaw midget on March 28, 2022, 12:12:48 AM
Yeah.

In case you weren't watching the Oscars, Chris Rock made a joke about Will Smith's wife.  Will was shown in the audience laughing about it and a moment later, he stormed up on stage and slapped Chris Rock in the face.  Hen he yelled at him to "keep my wife's name out your F***ing mouth."

And later, Will actually won an Oscar and talked about how he wanted to be a symbol of peace.

I guess if you're one of those people that says the Oscars are boring you don't have anything to complain about now.  It's not often you see an Oscar nominee assault the host on stage.  I'm just curious to see where this is going to go.  Chris Rock said he's not filing charges, but still you'd expect some blowback from this.

Compared to some of the other jokes I've heard cracked at these events it seemed fairly mild (I had to google to find out what joke he'd actually made, the first couple of reports I read didn't mention it so I assumed it had been something really beyond the pale, then when I read it was something about her hair, I thought we'll its mean, but I've heard much worse).

The most interesting thing I've heard of happening at the Oscars in many years, but that is a pretty low bar.

Not saying it wasn't offensive, just that there were other things I'd have expected to cause this kind of reaction before now.

His wife is balding because she's ill. Not cool.
Chris Rock hit a nerve.
If somebody said something about how Tara Sue looked like when she was ill, I would do worse.

Yeah, you don't make fun of people's illnesses when they are sitting there in front of you.
That was not cool.  Smith did overreact, but he was defending his lady's honor.
I'm having a hard time being mad at him.

Her illness is balding. That's it.  That's her condition.

Will Smith was laughing about it at first, then saw his wife was upset.

Yes.  It's a condition.

I did want to add...  Context is worth noting here.  People are assuming Rock knew about her balding stuff - like, why?  And whether he did or didn't doesn't really matter anyway.  Nothing changes about what he said, as he only references how her hair is cut - a deep buzz cut, what they both look like.  For the exact same reasons, when GI Jane came out, people compared the character to Sinead O'Connor.

Incidentally, I'm finding it extremely weird how many people are either actually ok with this, or sort of ok with it.  I'll keep that in mind for the next someone mockingly references my own balding condition or those of my family members.  Apparently if I start hitting people over it and screaming at them, no big deal.

She is not ill.

It was her pride that was wounded, she has owned her own alapecia in the past year or two.
I also think it looks good on her and certainly good enough to get away with a "G.I. JANE" joke.
WILL SMITH is completely full of sheet and what some might call "pw".  Horse hockey!  He behaved like a thug.  TURD.

In the big scheme of things- I don't really care.
So what? The super rich smacking each other! It should be on every Oscar show. Might boost the ratings.

I agree completely.  But since the stink has been under my nose for a few days, I conclude will smith is a turd.

I have three Will Smith DVDs in my collection: I threw 2 of them away yesterday.

The other I have to keep as it was a gift.

Tin foil hat time...

... could it possibly have been staged? It looked to me like Chris Rock was smirking a bit as he walked off stage.

Though too be fair he could have been wincing and it just looked to me like a smirk. Or maybe he's had some long standing beef with Smith and he was in fact smirking, like "Oooooh... that one got him."

Chris seems far too shake up afterwards for it to have been fake.  He seems at a loss for words and stumbled over his next few lines.

On top of that, what would Will Smith have to gain from this?  He's already getting an Oscar so he doesn't need the publicity and this basically ruins the nice guy image he's tried to uphold his entire career.

I considered it was staged and have rejected the notion.
CHRIS ROCK never looked better.
WILL SMITH looks like something Fido leaves on the sidewalk.

I don't think it was staged. Chris Rock seemed genuinely shocked and Will Smith seemed genuinely angry.

This probably won't happen but I would like to see Will Smith hand his Oscar back.

If it were up to me, he would have had his Oscar revoked. I would have demanded the same in Harvey Weinstein and Roman Polanski's cases too.

^ Oscars don't mean s**t. Does anyone even recall or care who won even 2 years ago? Does it even matter?
A big gold dildo. I wish they would put all these A-list nobodies in a ring and let them b***h slap each other. Last one standing wins.

I wasn't talking about you, Captain!

*sigh* One guy slaps another guy and it makes headlines for days/weeks around the world.

Meanwhile in other places wars are happening where people are raped and killed. People die of starvation in droughts and famines, serial killers torture people to death and go uncaught and so on.

If this had happened in a bar between two guys the chances are the police would have ignored it with much more important things to deal with.
