I love all trashy sci-fi and understand some of it rightfully deserves to be trashed. But why do people hate Chronicles of Riddick? It's always stood out to me as surprisingly good despite its rating and vastly superior to the other 2 films.
People: why do you hate this film.
Ok so Davalos looks lost, vin Diesel himself can't act to save his life (and never will), some of the editing is choppy, the script is grimey, and the SFX is of questionable quality. The soundtrack in particular lacks punch or identity and becomes truly annoying at times.
Apart from that what more do you want? The production is excellent and everyone plays with confidence. Riddick is expanded into a whimsical universe similar to Voyager or Lexx against an undead Roman empire with gadgets. There's a brief narrative about choosing evil over good. The final fight is kickass.
What's the matter? Was it the space vampires? The lack of ess ee ex? Or that he didn't have a crew of simps to make everyone feel safe. Look, it doesn't even require that much brainpower to watch. It got an awful sequel and two video games, one of which is considered a classic. Nothing adds up.
The reason I'm putting a serious price tag on this question is because the question is truly complexing to me. This was a flick clearly designed with a future in mind, with a good cast, displayed wonderfully, and hit the floor. Not the first time perhaps. But tell me why, I'm serious. I need to know why.
T&Cs of offer.
1) Doesn't need to be an essay, could be ten paragraphs, could be a line.
2) Limit is $50. If you half-convince me I'll give you 50% (variable upon level of convincing)
3) I prefer BTC but whatever this is for fun
OK, my essay on why Chronicles of Riddick is a bad film: by Rev. Powell.
*Ahem* [clears throat]

Should I send you my BTC address by PM?
Being a bad film doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable. For me, though it was just wasn't bad enough to be fun or good enough to stand out. It was just kind of meh, ok. A big drop from Pitch Black which I felt was excellent.
They marketed Riddick as an anti-hero, which was appealing in Pitch Black. In Chronicles, he has somewhat morphed into a fairly standard (and boring) reluctant hero.
$50 is 792 South African Rand so I'll take up the challenge. :teddyr:
An inferior sequel to a far far better original film: shouldn't have been made.
Pitch Black set the standard high. Chronicles fell short and was not bad enough to entertain on that level.
I found to be a wee bit of a head scratcher, that was trying to hard to be artsy...
It sucked. Just send me cash by mail.
Say, did anyone in this thread get paid?

Seems you've already convinced yourself.
REV, you beat me to it. (BTW 10 paragraphs? Starting to sound like an essay...)
What I would like to know is if the original poster has decided.
