Title: Best and Worst Movies...
Post by: RCMerchant on January 09, 2023, 05:04:26 PM
... of any actor.
I, of course, will start with Bela Lugosi.
My favorite film of his is the RAVEN (1935). His Dr. Vollin is so gleeful in his sadism. He steals the show from the top billed Boris Karloff.

(https://i.imgur.com/fk783jO.gif) (https://lunapic.com)

Worst- the DEATH KISS (1933). I was torn between this and BELA LUGOSI MEETS A BROOKLYN GORILLA (1952). At least in Bela in the '52 film has something to do. the DEATH KISS will put you to sleep in record time.

So! Howzabout you fine folks?

Christopher Lee.

For his best movie, I am going to go with The Wicker Man. For his worst, oh boy was he in some stinkers, but he always brought a certain gravitas to his roles and I don't recall seeing him ever phoning in a performance regardless of how little he believed in his role.

For the worst movie, he is in (that I've seen), I am torn between Police Academy: Mission to Moscow and The Howling II. I think I am going to have to go with the first one though.

Its been a while, but I am fairly sure he played a Russian. He played a lot of Russians and nazi's over the years.

Ok...Peter Lorre!

Best- so many great films! MAD LOVE, the MALTESE FALCON-but I'm going with Fritz Lang's M (1931)
Lorre plays a psychotic child killer. And he does the impossible- You feel sorry for him.

(https://i.imgur.com/pUc9JVf.gif) (https://lunapic.com)

Worst- VOYAGE TO THR BOTTOM OF THE SEA (1961) Leave it to hack director Irwin Allen to put Lorre in a nothing role in a nothing film.  Watching Irwin Allen movies is like a watching a monkey trying to fvck a football.

Nicolas Cage

Best movie: tough one to answer, but I'll stick with LORD OF WAR.
Worst movie: even tougher, if you know the man. It's a fierce competition, my main contenders are GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE, THE WICKER MAN and KNOWING, although I'm aware he's done some kind of post-apocalyptic movie recently that's insanely bad. I haven't seen it tho.

Jaws.

Jaws' best movie was in 1975's Jaws (really sensitive, understated performance by Jaws there).

Jaws' worst acting was when his ego was all out of control and he hammed it up in Jaws 3.

I guess I haven't seen him doing much since his cameo in Deep Blue Sea.

Michael Caine

I admit, I haven't seen that many of his movies, but from what I've seen, I go for:
Best: HARRY BROWN. Intense and real, amazingly good.
Worst: SLEUTH. The 2007 version, not the original, which I haven't seen. Weird, nonsensical... stuff. It barely has a coherent narrative to be called a movie.

Best and worst roles rather than movies, surely, but I love these guys, so I feel bad about referring to worst roles, even for actors like John Wayne in Conquerer. Can one say, "That's right, pilgrim, this town ain't big enough for the both of us" or something like that, or maybe "Watcha wan' me ta do, pain' a pitcher for ya?" in a Mongolian accent?

I'm sure someone has already mentioned Great Scott. Forget Patton because Turgidson rocks:

In case Michael Caine hasn't been mentioned yet, I just re-watched The Island, and it was good, but according to the trivia he refuses to talk about that movie. Would he talk about Jaws: The Revenge?

For good movies, I think he did great in movies like Alfie, but I think his best role was in Get Carter.

Martin Landau

Best!
ALONE IN THE DARK (1982) It also has Jack Palance and Donald Pleasance!
And Martin plays an escaped psycho ward nut case! ED WOOD would be second!
Jack does a bang up job as a walking freak show as well!

Worst- I dunno...
the TV show SPACE: 1999
That show - the actors don't even try. Unless they were trying to be zombies.
