Not really a weird news story but rather sad that hikers still go missing these days. It should be common knowledge that hiking can be dangerous. Hopefully he is ok? though he's been missing a week now.

That is sad news. I always liked him as an actor and back in the day thought he would've made a good Lestat. Hiking presents so many ways to meet misfortune it is a wonder there are not more deaths.

Yeah, he's always been a terrific character actor (love him in Warlock) and has family looking for him.  Doesn't look good but I hope he turns up OK.

As a bit of a shoutout from this news for everyone and those you know: if you want to go hiking alone especially in remote areas, register and pack a PLB or satellite messenger of some kind, one with built in GPS location.  Check it's charged and working every trip.

For those unfamiliar, these are small, relatively inexpensive devices that send a satellite message and immediately contact search and rescue.  If you have GPS built in, they'll be able to find you normally within hours virtually anywhere in the USA.  They're a one time purchase, no monthly fees or anything (registration is free), as it's an open contacting service provided by the government.

No shame to Sands intended; for all we know he had one and was unable to use it for some reason, and some people simply don't know about them.  Just think it's a good note to make.  They're a one time investment and will make all of your family and friends feel better about your trips out alone.
